Jordonelle 11/28 Deer Creek 11/29
#1
For those who like to chase the slimers (trout) Both of these waters are producing nice fish.

Stopped by Hailstone on the 28th before going to a doctors app. in the afternoon. Launched the toon from the PWC ramp. Snowy and slick conditions prevailed. I was the only one on the water, very light snow and next to no wind the whole time I was there. Jigged with white, pearl, and pumkin curly tails and tubes. used a 16th and 1/8th head. Lots and lots of bows between 12 and 16 inches. No browns or cutts for me, no perch, no bass. Water temp a cool 39. Made me glad to be uup and out of the water for a change. Most fish were caught between 12 and 25 feet. They needed no coaxing just something hangin near by. 1st time I have used no sweetener also. Fished from 9 til 12:30 had a great time. Maybe I will get that digital camera I have been asking for for my birthday in a couple of weeks.

DC at the main state park. Called into the office this morning and got the day off. So around 7:30 I hit DC off the docks. Way too slipery to launch the toon!! Wayyyyyyy cold this morning 7 degrees when I got there! Started by casting an old Jakes I have, black w/red spots. Second cast bang a pretty lil bow around 12 inches. 3 more cast and 2 more fish (maybe the same one as they both were 12 in). Changed to a new jakes in Gold w/ red dots. Now fishing got good! Landed around 10 more bows. Largest going around 3 pounds. By then I was too cold to continue. Will dress better the next time! It had warmed up to a whopping 10 degrees by 9:00 am and I headed for home. This is the first time I have ever fished from the docs at DC. But it may not be the last time. Way too much fun. If only you could count on the fish being so coopertive on each trip! At any rate I tried a few different jigs and curl tails without any success (a few hits but no hook sets). The hot number was the Jakes today.

[cool][#0000ff]Good report. Now maybe everyone will quit accusing me of being of "diminished capacity" when I fish in the cold.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Glad you found some fish to compensate for the case of hypothermia.[/#0000ff]

Yep, I didn't admit that I was one of them, because everyone already knows I fish in the nastiest weather.

[cool][#0000ff]Don't worry your pretty little head about standing me up. The fish took care of my sorrow.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]When you said you had visiting family it didn't surprise me that you didn't show. The X factor always seems to mess up fishing plans when other family members are involved.[/#0000ff]

Say Road,

That must have been something catching all those fish in the cold from the docks at the main ramp. The docks have been out of the water for some time now and it is at least 110 ft from the slippery ramps to the water. I guess the treble hooks hold well enough so you can drag the fish up the ramp OK?

I'll make a check mark by this story.

Too funny! Try this for hypothermia. I used to wade into utah lake when it was like 26-32 degrees airtemp in the daytime. The fishing was quite the challenge.......hot water from a spring, but when I got out from the water, by the time I got to the car, my wader boot laces were frozen solid metal sticks, and ice peeled off the waders and flaked in every direction. BRRRRRRRRRRR!!!! Couldn't take the boots off......it took pliers to undo the laces.

[#0000ff]Reminds me of a couple of similar jaunts I have made down there in "balmy" weather. On one occasion my fishing buddy and myself had our backs to the horizontal blizzard, as we pitched jigs for prespawn walleyes. Every once in awhile we had to shrug hard to loosen the buildup of snow on our back and shoulders. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]There was another time about this time of year, on American Fork Boat Harbor when we arrived after driving all the way down in a driving blizzard (dedication vs. delusion). The water temp was cold enough that the heavy snow was settling on the water and not melting. There was a layer of slush several inches deep covering the harbor. My fishing buddy (same one) had brought waders but not a float tube. He tried making a couple of casts while I was getting my tube ready. We laughed when his tandem jig rig stayed on top of the slush. So...I plowed a path out through it, with my tube, and made a hole about 10 feet across for him to fish. He caught a few white bass from my "custom fishing hole" while I made my own small "piece of heaven" and caught a few by vertical jigging.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The storm got worse and the air temperature dropped. I almost got frozen into the slush before powering my way back to shore. Yeah, ya cain't beat fun.[/#0000ff]

Take a ride over Bowcutt about 50 feet to the west of the launch ramp. I posted that way for a reason. The ramp is snow/ice covered as well as the rocks and shore. I guess you never work or play outdoors. No worse now than in spring when its sloppy and slippery.

deer creek has always been good to ex. from shore this time of year . not excluding the fact that it has just been planted with little bows

[cool]Nice report, Road. That sounds like a lot of fun. I'm going to have to remember the docs at Deer Creek (in the late fall/winter anyway-too crowded with the power squadron the rest of the year). That's a lake that I need to get more familiar with.

How did you do at lake X on T-Day? I think I saw you launching your boat when I was driving over from the personal watercraft area at around 7:00 or so. I got some hits when I was over by the boat ramp shore fishing, but it was shallow and I had to resort to bait chucking after an hour or so of casting and losing two lures (even though I was trying to keep the lure off the bottom). Later I retreated over to Rock Cliffs, but it was windier than all get out with big swells, and I didn't even get a bite even with Jakes or other spoons. That's my report...

Thanks beeman I didn't know that they planted it.
But that would explain a couple of things. The bigger fish must have been chowing down on the planters.
Also that would explain why the lighter color Jake worked so well.
There have been a few things this year that have changed from past years on DC. Its always fun and a bit different. The challange is back and that makes it fun. I hadn't used a jake in probably 5 years,. Just thought I would give um a try. Normally I would have been tossing road runners that TD intro me too a few years ago.
