A certain central Utah lake report.
#1
I hit a certain lake in central Utah this morning. (The name rhymes with sno(w)field, and the DWR will raise the limit there in January.) It was a toasty 6 degrees when I started at 9:45 AM. I was ecstatic to find 4 inches of solid ice and zero slush on the deck. I was near the dam. There were several other groups in the cove near the dam, but only a couple on the main lake. Conditions were nice except for the cold temps. I fished in 26 ft. of water. The fishing was very good. I had a pretty high fish count, with most of the fish being the 8-11 inch fall planters, and 8-10 being the 14-16 inch footballs. The bulk of the fish were in the bottom 10 ft. of water. No monsters caught today. I used mainly rat finkies below a flasher and tipped with crawler. Other jigs didn't seem to generate any interest. All rainbows today, no tigers or cutts. Fished till 3:45 PM.
A great day on the pond! Anyway, Scofield is good to go.
Tight lines.

Nice report. A group of my friends head south to Scofield and Huntington to check them out for next weekend. Haven't heard from them yet though. Sounds like you had a great time. Keep it up.

So am I to assume the entire lake was capped? Thanks for the report and I'm glad you had a good time.

The entire lake is capped. I do not know ice thickness in other areas, but with these cold temps, the ice will thicken rapidly.

Thanks for the report. Good to know another lake is ice-fishable. Not too long before we add Rockport, Strawberry, and Jordanelle to the list of ice fishable lakes.
