ICE FISHING BAIT
#1
Does anyone have a good address for obtaining waxworms and mousies? I use to order them from a supplier in Wis. but have lost the address and phone #. I know you can usually buy them at the local sports shops when they get them in, but I liked the ones I had shipped to me better. They seemed to be healthier and lasted longer. Thanks.[cool]

[cool]I'm not from the midwest, so I don't know what mousies are, but I think they are different from wax worms and mealies, judging by a recent ice fishing article in In-Fisherman that I read. It just briefly mentioned them in the same sentance as wax worms, so i would think they are different. Could be wrong though?[crazy]

They are a small white larva with a tail like a mouse and are tougher than waxies. I like waxies better but at times the mousey will out perform them. I grew up fishing with both back in Wis. in the 50's and 60's.

As I understand spikes and mousies are the same. They are a fly larve. the links on the other thread have them for sale. Most expensive of the ice bait.
I think between my frozen minnows, carp, earth worms, waxies, mealies and in some waters perch meat and eyes, I seem to do ok without them.

Actually mousies and spikes are different. Spikes are actually maggots and do not have the tail.[cool]
