Dedicated Hunter Bass Habitat Project
#1
We are in need of a couple of dedicated hunters to help coordinate a Christmas Tree collection project in the Southern Region. The trees will ultimately end up at the Wahweap Fish Hatchery and will be used to help enhance Bass Habitat. Please contact me or respond to this message to get more details about how you could help.

Gary -- is the DWR collecting Christmas trees? Is there somewhere we can drop our trees off?

Right now I'm working on setting up some drop off locations and will let you know when they are set in stone, but it will probably be here at the regional office in Cedar or if you are close to wahweap hatchery I know they will accept them there anytime.

My hope is that we can have a day where volunteers collect them and then a couple volunteers transport them to wahweap on another day.

I'm not interested in dedicated hunter hours, but I'm always willing to help out. I don't want to take away any oppertunity from DH'ers getting their hours in -- but if you end up short handed and need additional help, just let me know.

Keep us updated on what you have going on.

I will definitely keep you updated, my position entails coordinating all volunteer work for the region, DH's just make up the majority of them, but all are welcome!

I've got things a little more finalized on the tree project, here are the details:
-If you want to participate in the Christmas Tree project here is what you can do:
Credit for hours will be given from the time you reach the pickup location to the time you return plus credit for your mileage @ thirty five cents a mile (which will equal about 5 hours)
Cedar City Area:
*I need one truck and trailer (1 or 2 volunteers) to go out to Home Depot within a couple of days after Christmas to load up the trees they did not sell (approx 250-300). This load can go straight to Wahweap on the same day. The first one to contact me gets this one.
*I will need a couple of trucks and trailers to haul a load out to Wahweap from the Division office @ 1470 N Airport Road. We will start hauling trees from here right after New Years and will keep going until they are all gone.
*Additionally, anyone who wants to go out and try to collect some trees locally may call me to see what is expected.

St. George Area:
*The Washington County Landfill has agreed to set aside all the trees they get in, and they expect to get a lot. I will need guys with trucks and trailers to go out to the landfill, pick up a load and haul it to Wahweap.
Kanab Area:
*Work with the hatchery to determine their needs in collecting trees.
Other Areas:
*Other areas are welcome to haul a load from the Washington County landfill. Contact me and I’ll let you know what to do.
*People from other areas are also welcome to organize their own collection and either haul the trees to Wahweap or to the Division office in Cedar City. Contact me if you are interested in doing this.
