What ice rod holder do you use?
#1
I have a Mr Jigger and 2 home built ones, a bucket wire holder and many of the wire holders that sit on the snow. I would like to come up with some that stand about waist high.

Check with Tube Dude(imagine that), he builds one of PVC that could easily be made waist height.
I have bucket ones, ice ones and a Mr Jigger. I will buy another jigger. It is great, I can give it a tap and it jigs for 1/2 minute, when I get a hit, it shows instantly.

I agree about the Mr Jigger. I love how it moves even in the breeze or wind. I made some out of wood and used welding rod, striped of all the stuff so it's smooth, and then bent it to fit the rod handle. They seemed to work rather well. Guess if I wanted to I could make the upright part as tall as I wanted. Boy the "breeze" would definately have it's way with the jigging then!

I use several methods,

I have a wire that sits on the ice,
I have a plastic clip on that mounts on my bucket
I use my bucket just laying my rod across the top
I set my rod on the rack of my articat.
some times I never set the rod down at all.

[black]Here's a photo of one that I have seen several folks using. I don't know who originally designed it, because when I first saw it, it was kentofnsl that had one. But, whoever should get the credit, it's a nice design.

I'm gonna drag up and old post here. But same question.
I've got one Mr Jigger - and it's been great. Hoping to get another one or two. Or just make some.
Would love to see a photo of your wooden ones.
Wonder if you did make one on a taller stand - how about adding a pinwheel, or some sort of flagging that would blow and bounce more? Counterbalance would be less of a problem higher in the air...

I got a Jawjacker - and am looking at some other 'designs' on Youtube, but I think I like the jawjacker more - for that second pole set away - outside the tent... downrigger for ice.
I've tried the red wire ones that sit on a bucket, hold rod horizontal, or red-wire sits on the ground - rod at a 45. But I like something I can get the rod out of without the holding flying all over the tent - or down the hole!
(wine cork cut in two - makes a great float for the Jigger-wire!
Just saw a wire one on Ebay that attaches to an ice-sled. Question is - could I do that with a coat hanger?

I now use ones I made from PVC, very simple and break down to fit in a bucket as well.

Google Jigger Totter . I bought 5 last year for $25 for all five and I love them . I have all kinds of rod holders . The most simple one is cut a 1 1/4" hole near the top of a 5 gallon bucket. stick your rod handle through the hole with your rod facing the other direction , that way a fish can't steal it . Like it could if the rod is just sitting on top of the bucket . Curt G.

Check out the ideal rod holder by Dano.... it's not waist high, but it sure works great and can be used all year long as well. It is available at Sportsmans or online at www.idealrodholder.com

I did the same thing. The Jaw Jacker looks really good on YouTube, so I ordered one from Cabela's. They're back ordered right now, but after about 3 days they say mine has been shipped already. Alright, another toy!

I have several portable ones that clamp to my boat. I use them and clamp them to my sled.

I genneraly have one in hand at all times. I feel naked with out a rod in my hand. and every one knows you should be naked out on the ice in the middle of winter. [angelic]

Check out Jigger Totters . I have had very good luck with them also . They will detect the lightest bites . We can use 5 rods here in Idaho , so we need several holders .

I also use the jigger totters. IMHO they are the best rod holder out there for ice fishing. I like the concept of the jaw jacker, but I still prefer the JT's.

I've been using them for several years now and since my friend is the manufacturer I got in on the early days and was somewhat involved in testing of proto-types and such. Even after years of use, they still amaze me at how well they will detect light bites, jig on their own in a breeze, and just this weekend I figured out that the fish were setting the hooks on their own. Wow! Took me 4 or 5 years to figure that one out. I must be slow. [Smile]
