(Feb. 13, 2007 - Islamorada, Florida Keys)... From the odd and unusual to the new and necessary, parts and equipment that make life easier in, on or under water in the Keys can be found at the 12th annual Gigantic Nautical Flea Market. The event is set for Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 24-25, at Founders Park, mile marker 87 bayside on Plantation Key.
The annual two-day open-air market allows bargain hunters to check out new and used boat parts, electronics, marine products, scuba and snorkel gear, dock equipment, nautical arts and crafts, fishing gear and clothing.
Poking through boxes of loose parts, boaters who have been everywhere and seen everything often turn up the oddball or one-of-a-kind fitting found nowhere else.
Fish chasers looking for deeply discounted rods, reels, line and lures come from miles away to ogle the angling gear on display.
Water lovers of all ages come to find tools and toys, while sun worshippers enjoy a day at the park.
Flea market hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25.
There is no charge for admission.
All funds raised benefit the Upper Keys Rotary Foundation Scholarship fund, which helps local students pay for college.
For more information or vendor registration, call (305) 453-3802.
To find out about area accommodations, call the Islamorada Chamber of Commerce at (305) 664-4503 or (800) 322-5397.
