Maiden Voyage
#1
I got a "training day" at work today, and decided I would train up on catching fish and try out my new ODC 420 -- (much better than my gunnison I must say)

The newsman said that it would get to 70 today so I layered up and decided to break some ice. I went to the local city lake as it had open water slightly bigger than the local city pool or my bathtub.

All in all it was a pretty nice day. I caught about 5 trout and busted up about 50 yards of thin ice. 3 of the 5 came at about lunch time, when my wife was delivering Subway.

Sorry for the sucky pictures, my picture taking skills are about the same as my fishing -- marginal at best. [Smile]

I stayed warm, focused on the feet, hands and face like everyone has mentioned. Those appendages stayed nice and warm, however -- no one ever mentioned that cold water tubing can lead to a chilly rear end. I will be looking for some padded poly unders next year [Smile]

Way to go bro. Thanks for the nice report and pics. The only part that is sucky about float tubing is when you get a hole in your tube when you are 300ft from shore. That Sucks!!!

As far as everything else goes, It's all good!!! Git er done[cool]

Good job Dusty glad you were able to take advantage of the 70 degree weather while the rest of us were doing that four letter word.[Smile]

Way to go DustyT. It got up to 70+ in central OH yesterday, too. Almost called in sick. This weekend there might be flurries. Darn...glad somebody got out and took advantage of the warm day. Since I've never float tubed before, reading these reports of cold backsides might make me go out and buy an inflatable hemorrhoid seat to help keep my butt up.

[#0000bf]Sorry about the cool nether regions. Some of us are numb at both ends and never notice that stuff.[/#0000bf]
[#0000bf][/#0000bf]
[#0000bf]A good set of proper underthermals will help a lot. After that, you can just wear a pair of sweat shorts under/over your other gear to increase padding and insulation. [/#0000bf]

Thanks for the encouragment! A little update from last year -- since I fish in "fish bowls" around here that don't have boat ramps (straight from shore down to about 5' 7", I learned some important "Mount and Dismount" lessons last year.

I am proud to say that I have almost now mastered the "Fish Bowl Mount" -- but the "Dismount" could still earn me an honorable mention on Americans Funnies home videos I am sure. I won't know what to think when I have a concrete boat ramp to launch from.

On the Sad part of my trip yesterday -- I could not convince any Bass to play (I chased them specifically for about 3 hours). As a matter of fact, if those 5 trout had not felt sorry for me and surrendered -- it would have been a big ZERO. Still much better than work Smile
