Utah lake west side 4-7-07
#1
I hit Utah this morning for a couple of hours. I had hoped to pick up a couple of cats.

No luck!!

I did see a bunch of carp, I threws jigs at them as long as they stayed on the surface. No hits.

The trolling motor worked very well this time.
Thanks to the helpful hints from Flygoddess and others, it tracked fairly straight.

I used it to take me up the lake and then I drifted a minnows on the way back.
I threw plastics and crankbaits, without any hits.

The water was 52 degrees.

[cool][#0000ff]Sounds like the kitties quieted down all over the lake for a couple of days. We didn't do much at Lincoln Beach Friday either.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]But...the good news is that with the warming water the cats will be moving shallow, around the reeds again. Next time you go bring some bobbers and fish them like you did in the summer last year. Also, fish meat...like carp or white bass...seems to work better right now than my beloved chub minnows.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Wanna try to gang up on them after the weather settles down again...if it ever does?[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Glad you got your motor dialed in. That will help with the mobility.[/#0000ff]

There is a possibility of Friday and hopefully Saturday.

I have to baby sit a granddaughter on many of my days off.
If Friday looks good, I can make arrangements early and should be able to make it.

We don't have to go over on the west side, I am game for most anywhere.

I figured we would do something on Saturday.
Where do you want TD to give us some of the finer points on catching fish???

Everyone else seems to be finding fish in Utah, except for me.

I tried our spot on the west and didn't get a hit.

The weather for the week doesn't look great. The weekend looks OK, but I don't know if the fish will be settled down and ready to bite.

BUT, none the less, I am still ready to try somewhere.

[cool][#0000ff]Saturday does look like the best bet for the week, but as you point out, the fish might still be unsettled.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The positive outlook on that is that the water is warming and the fishes' metabolism is kicking in. They need to eat to get ready for the upcoming spawn. So, even if the water is murky, they will feed if they can find food. The key is to find where they are looking for food and serve them something flavorful that they can home in on in the murk.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Let's watch the weather countdown, and the wind forecast and then make our final decision about Friday. if we can get a south breeze, I might suggest hitting Lincoln Beach. It is a longer drive for you guys, but it is fishing good. There is also a wider variety of fishing options parking at one location.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I guarantee that the whole area along the west side will turn on soon. We just have to be patient and wait for conditions to stabilize. They will. [/#0000ff]

I just talked with James.
Let's just plan on Saturday at Lincoln Beach. We don't mind driving a little farther for fish.
And, I did want to fish that area again. The one and only time I have been there, it was very windy. So, I would like to try that again.
We will stay in contact.

[cool][#0000ff]Right now the forecast is for west winds at 10-11 mph. That is more than I care to fish in. Let's watch and wait.[/#0000ff]

[cool][#0000ff]No, no, no. I don't fish in the sage. I fish in the water.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The way the weather works in Utah the forecast could change 10 times by the weekend. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]But, if the wind forecast is for more than about 3-5 mph, I would rather do yardwork. Not really, but there is no use going fishing...for me.[/#0000ff]

If Saturday winds up being the day, I may show up to play as well. I don't have anything going and can afford the trip down just to soak some bait in a comfy tube. Wind doesn't bother me too bad.... unless its Utah Lake. It just scares me for some reason so if its going to be bad, I'll go hit up a river instead. I have thought about the west side again too Dude....and would like to plan a weekday to meet up with you and possibly Leaky to do another trip over there... if Leaky's game that is. I will need to obtain some fresh bait though.... which might be another possibility for the weekend. [cool]

[cool][#0000ff]Midweek next week might be a possibility. The fish can't wait any longer than we can.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]If you don't make a bait run, I have some for you.[/#0000ff]

[cool][#0000ff]Forecrash is for wind. Don't look for me on the water.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Patience. My logs from last year show that we had to put up with on and off wind all April last year too.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Soon...I hope.[/#0000ff]

I think you may right.

Sounds like James and I are going to skip tomorrow also.
Maybe next weekend will be a little better.

If the weather looks good during the week and you plan to go somewhere close, send me a note and I will see if I can hook up with you there.

[cool][#0000ff]The forecast is for an up and down barometer. Not good for most fish...especially cats. They usually do a lot better after a few days of settled weather.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The long range forecast shows Friday to be the best potential for the week. Had thought about hitting Willard but could be persuaded to do UL. Let's watch and wait.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]It may be nice Saturday, but even if the wind does not blow it has been up to 35 MPH. That mucks up the water and chases the fish out of the shallows for at least a couple of days. The fishing might be great but the catching would probably not be very good. [/#0000ff]
