Tube Material On The ODC 420
#1
Is it vinyl or urethane, like those on the Outcast float tubes?

My guess is vinyl. I emailed Creek Company but they have not responded to this question.

Anyone know???

General rule of thumb. If it is less than 250bucks, it must be vinyl.[Wink]

Tha Bladder is Vinyl, the outer cover is a cloth like Nylon I think, Majja would be able to answer that.

Here's the stats for the ODC 420 (straight from the box):

30 guage PVC air bladders
420 Denier nylon top material
Heavy duty 30 oz PVC pontoon bottoms

Hope that helps! [Wink]

Cabela's has a comparison page that lists the different design features of the tubes they sell.

I checked the Cabelas comparison chart mentioned above and found that it isn't entirely accurate. While giving some good general comparisons, it botched some things. For instance, it lists the size of the FC4 and the Super Fat Cat at 45"x54". However, there is a definite and noticable difference in the size of these two. (I have both tubes.) See picture below that compares the size of the FC4 and the Fat Cat/Super Fat Cat:

For someone making a critical comparison the Cabelas chart would be misleading (at least on these tubes).

BTW, it has been mentioned before but there is a great comparison review on the Outcast tubes at Riverwire.com:

I also have an ODC 420 and if you set it up in such a side by side comparison it would fall between the FC4 and the Fat Cat/Super Fat Cat in size. Back when I was tube shopping I took a tape measure with me and measured each of these tubes critically.

Just some things to think about. In the critical ways we sometimes review these things on this forum, it is important to get good information before you plunk your money down.

Just like it says the are

Just like it says they are

Heavy duty 30 oz PVC pontoon bottoms

the tips are also the PVC material as well. This is where you start to make compromises unfortunately. Cost vs. materials. Such as PVC bladders or urethane bladders, halkie valves or Boston valves ect. The SFC and also the North fork H3's are IMHO probably the best built tubes out there. That being said you are also looking at spending a lot more money for them. When I was shopping I decided that the ODC was the best bang for the buck at what I was able to spend. It is a good balance between the lower end and the higher end. I can tell you this I am not disappointed with this tube. I can also say for my next one it will most likely be an H3 when it is time to replace the ODC in a couple of years. I can also tell you that I am just under the 250# mark and with all gear on the tube I get a little water in my seat but my butt is still out of the water so the ODC does a very good job of floating me. Also I take care of my gear but I am not easy on it at the same time. I would have to say I have been out probably 8-10 times since October and I am not disappointed in it at all.
All in all if you can try before you buy do so. If not try to buy form someplace like Cabelas with a no hassle money back guarantee. I paid just a little more so that I could have that piece of mind. [font "Verdana,Arial,Helvetica"][black][size 1][font "Verdana,Arial,Helvetica"][black][size 1]
