STRIPED BASS- Its a whole new world out there. The Connecticut River
has a good bunch of schoolies mostly concentrated below the RR Bridge.
The outgoing tide has been best with some limited action on the flood
tide. The River is pretty clean in color but watch for logs and other
debris coming down. This next week should be approaching the peak of the
schoolie run in terms of numbers. Most of the bass are between 15 and 20
inches, every day a few more larger bass are being caught.
The DEP Piers are doing well for anglers using sandworms, the Causeway
has schoolies on leadhead jigs.
Theres been a lot of bunker around both locally and across the pond.
Lets hope last years run of bunker is the start of a trend.
BLUEFISH- The first bluefish was caught yesterday at Millstone. Don't
expect many more for about 10 days.
FLOUNDER- Niantic has slowed down, not too much other news on flounder.
I think its a long shot but the breakwater it worth a try on the last
of the flood tide.
FLUKE- Montauk has been good for about a week. Most of the fish are
below their 19 1/2 inch limit, however we've heard of a few 8 and 9
pounders. They are also in Peconic Bay around Shelter Island. No reports of
fluke locally yet. Don't wait now is the best of the fluke season.
BLACKFISH- Season Closed.
