Channel Catfish being stocked.

Starting Tues. the state started stocking Channel Cats in Lake Wintergreen 14"-18", All others 9"-12". Maltby Lakes, Quonnipaug,Pattaconk Lake,Silver Lake,Black Pond in Meriden. Now we have to wait abit for some size.

i wonder if its going to be like the white catfish program they had in the late 60's,early 70's,do it for a couple of years and forget about it

Hopefully, your DNR will do it right by implementing a bag limit. Channel cats reach maturity pretty early, and if a bag limit is made, they'll sustain life on their own. It all depends. That might be something to bring up at your next wildlife meeting. [Smile]

They stock Channel Kittys in my area too. They are usually 1 1/2 to 2lbs when they stock them. By the end of summer, there a few holdovers that get up to 7lbs.

That's when I get on them with my float tube.[cool]

Steve how long before they get that big? It would be great to bring home some tastey fish.

If they stock them early enough in the summer, the a nice and plump by the end of summer.

The ones that are just planted have a taste that is almost like Pike. It is not very strong and if you were blindfolded, you wouldn't even think that it was catfish.[cool]
