I am looking for a portable sonar for use in our canoe. I've heard of people gluing the transducer to the inside (bottom) of their canoes. I've looked at various brands at Cabelas, but I'm at a lose as to where to begin looking. I don't need anything beyond the basic sonar... water temp and speed sensors would be handy, though.
Any ideas?

Personally I wouldnt want my tranducer hard mounted to a canoe.(inside or out) I'd use one of these... As far as sonars go, I am a Lowrance guy. You should know that the speed sensors, which use a small paddle wheel, are not very accurate at slow speeds. If you get a sonar with GPS, then the speed is accurate (but obviously that is more money). Most sonars have surface temp though.
Hope this helps, and good luck picking out a unit!

You can get any 12V finder and use it in your canoe and not fixing the transducer permant anywhere. Just use some PVC and you can make a portable bracket that will even tip up when you start cruisen when not fishing. Visit the tubing part of this forum and you will get so usable ideas.[cool]
