Question for Moderators????
#1
I am a relatively new member of this forum and have a question for a moderator or an administrator:

I am a recent retiree who has started a small business to supplement my income. The business provides a new & very unique line of products for fishermen and hunters. I'd like to introduce the members of this forum to them. However, I do not want to break any rules or offend anyone by putting "advertising material" in the forum. My question is: Does this forum have any place where I can legitimately introduce members to my products on a one time basis? I see a few items that seem like commercial introductions here, but am not sure that it is ok. As soon as I start making some money at this, I want to put a banner ad on this site. However, I don't yet have the funding necessary to support that kind of expenditure.

Welcome aboard and thanks for the question.

We do have an advertisement board here which is for that purpose.

It is for adds by active members. It is the sole discretion of the Administrators as to where that small free ad can stay and for how long.

Thank you for your consideration and good luck with your new business.[cool]

I also moderate the auctions board. So, if you are interested in selling your items in an ebay auction, post a link to your auction on that board. It certainly won't hurt your auction, and I believe will bring more hits and more bidding.

Good luck!

Here is a link to the main index which lists all of the available boards (including the buy sale trade tackle board, and the tackle auctions board)... http://www.bigfishtackle.com/forum/

Thanks for the tips I appreciate it. Question for you though:
I have been very reluctant to list my products for sale on ebay. My understanding is that you have to accept PayPal to sell on ebay & I have heard some very disturbing things about PayPal locking up a several sellers' bank accounts for indefinite periods of time. Was only a few clicks away from setting up an ebay account when I found a whole bunch of sellers complaining on the internet about PayPal locking up their bank accounts for months at a time. After reading through a bunch of these, I decided that I didn't want to have anything to do with PayPal. Have you heard of this too?

I've never heard of that. I have been using paypal on ebay for years and have never had a seconds problem with it. Unless things have changed, you don't have to have paypal to use ebay. Some sellers only accept personal checks or money orders. I have bought items from these people and that worked fine too. Just took a little longer than an instant paypal payment does (had to send in the mail before they'd ship to me). So, don't let the paypal thing scare you away. Personally I'd sign up and use the great service to make it easier for your customers to pay you... but, I'm sure you could still get some business without paypal.

Good luck, and let me know if you have any more ebay questions!

Thanks for the quick response. I just looked through the various catagories you have for ebay fishing related items. I don't think my products fit in any of the existing catagories other than perhaps "art" or "gifts". Although suitable as gifts for a fisherman or hunter, they are not really gifts as people typically think of them. I have sold some as special gifts for fishermen, but virtually all of my customers have been purchasing them for themselves. Also, since each item is designed for an individual customer to be a replica of his/her own fish, how would I sell them on ebay? I already have a website & store set up to accept MC and Visa. Are those possibilities with ebay?

Although I have been producing and selling my products locally for quite a while, as you have probably already figured out, I am relatively new at trying to sell my products over the internet. Since you seem to be really familiar with ebay; If you get a chance, I'd really appreciate you looking at the products on my web site (its listed in my profile) and then send me a PM or email with any ideas or suggestions you might have. I'm not sure how they could be sold on ebay when each one is custom designed after I recieve the customer's photograph.
