The 2nd week of fall stocking will occur on Wednesday, October 31 and Thursday, November 1. The stocking of these trout was delayed until this week because of unseasonably warm temperatures which led to concerns that the large fish, reared in 52°F water at the Pequest Trout Hatchery, would have difficulty adjusting to a large, sudden increase in temperature when stocked.
The water temperatures in the central and south Jersey lakes and ponds scheduled for stocking were checked again today. These temperatures, now in the low 60's, are suitable for trout stocking. Fortunately, the hatchery was able to hold these 3,290 trout several additional weeks without compromising the production cycle. At last, anglers will have the chance to fish for these big trout, which are now a bit bigger due to their extended stay at the hatchery.
