Flaming Gorge Rainbows- 12/5/07
#1
Is this December? It's in the upper 40s at the Gorge today and the fishing is good. We caught about a dozen rainbows and one laker pup in a few hours of fishing in Jarvies Canyon. Rainbows have moved into the shallows and are receptive to lures including spoons and jigs. We caught some nice bows around 18 inches, while throwing Kastmasters in rainbow and rainbow/gold near rocky points. Trolling was also effective using Shad Raps and planer boards going about 1.6 mph. Most of the fish hit when the planer board was tracking close to shore. Whether your in a boat, tube, or sitting on shore, the bite should be good. Surface temps are still hanging around 46F. Hope it helps! Ryno

Another great report Ryan, thanks for keeping the post coming. A friend was fishing from shore at Sheep creek last week and was catching some nice bows up to 21 inches. How much longer do you think the bows will be in so close to shore?

Last year the bows were in close all the way to ice-up. I suspect this is the pattern reservoir wide. It was tougher for rainbows through the ice in the lower reservoir, but we did really good up around Buckboard, Lost Dog, and Firehole. I couldn't buy a fish the two days I fished on Antelope Flat and Sheep Creek. Kinda odd.....
