Strawberry CCW Report
#1
Fished CCW today with my two sons and grandson.
The walk in was hard because of the deep snow, but once on the ice, it was easy going. Take snowshoes if you go!
Ice was 9" thick where I fished. Some people out farther said the ice was much thinner out there.
We caught a lot of Cutthroat Trout in the slot using Maniac Ice Cut'rs and Gizzy Bugs.
James from Maniac was there with us today.
Thanks for the ride back to the truck James.
It was a great trip with a lot of fish iced.

There were snowmobiles driving along the shore line, but not out on the ice.
The ice thickness varies so much right now, they just didn't dare try driving on the ice yet.
They did get folks out to the ice instead of taking the long walk that we did.
I would not take a wheeler there.
Snowshoes were a life saver for me.
Over at the Marina, the word was that the ice was a lot thinner.

Your welcome Dale!
I am glad that I didn't have to walk in that deep snow.
I had a great time and I think everyone else did as well. There was a lot of fish caught as well as some big fish over the slot. I'm not really sure how many fish that I caught, maybe twenty or more. The fish that I caught were taken using 1-1/2" Cut'r Bugs on a 1/16 oz round head. We had some great company on the ice with us.
Adam Eakle and his son was nice enough to spend their day off fishing with us and Filming the action. Thanks Adam! Tune into Channel two on Saturday night to see the full report.

I know I was sure glad I registered that snowmobile. I tried walking out to the Ice, pulling my quick flip 2 and it about killed me. Once we got out there it was a good time. The action was good I even had doubles on back to back. I only caught one over the slot which was 22 1/8 long. The rest were the typical 19 to 20 inch range. I caught all my fish on a Ice cuttr white with the red flake. I tipped with meal worms sometimes with chub meat it both worked. It was good to meet everybody and if you go up be careful on the Ice. Where I was it was only about 3 inches and 10 feet further out it was only about 2 inches of ice so watch out. The main bay at chicken creek looked to be capped and probley by next week will be safe. Make sure you take four wheel drives the roads aren't plowed worth a crap.

Wow, you drove all the way to the Berry after we saw you at EC? Sounds like you guys did good for getting there late. We ended up staying but should have gone somewhere else[unsure].

Wiperhunter2,
we fished Strawberry on Saturday.
Yesterday [1-1-08] we stayed at CE. We just joined the tent city over at Taylor Hollow.
How did you do back by the ramp?
Ice there was too thin for the family to dare fish.
We did OK, but it was after 9:00 by the time we started fishing.

My Bad, I did not even look at the date you posted it[blush]. We went down to where the other two guys were fishing and the ice was 4 inches or so. One of those two guys was MantuaFanatic, it was good meeting you MF. We had no luck but MF's group caught three I believe. As we were leaving we talked to two guys that fished twenty yards beyond the spot you drilled your last hole off the ramp. They said they caught 6. There was 20 to 30 people fishing that area around the ramp when we left. There were several groups that did not even bother to check the ice before they went several hundred yards beyond the area that you drilled your first holes.
