Any reports from Bear Lake the last few days? Ice still safe and such...

I fished it on the west side south of Gus Rich's point last Saturday. There was 9 inches of good ice, no slush, and only a couple of inches of snow in the ice. It hasn't really gotten above freezing in Logan where I live since then (plus it has been single digits at night), so I am guessing that it has been downright cold over there and that the ice is still getting thicker.

I fished it yesterday (tuesday) on the rock pile, fishing hasn't picked up yet. but the ice is in great condition, around 9 inches every where i plugged. temperatures are around zero during the night it's still cold there until the sun comes out then its kinda nice. take some sun screen, my face looks like a tomatoe[blush].

As cold as it is now at nights that pond should be froze for a while. Love the sound of the ice cracking and eckoing off the mountains like thunder. I might give it another shot this Sunday in hopes the big guys are feeding. When they do turn on again is should be really good for at least a week if history repeats itself. When it does I will get over there for three days in a row.

I fished Sunday morning for my first time up there in years. I fished on the west side south of the rockpile...so probably Gus Rick point? I fished in about 80 Ft. and got one hookup about 15-20 ft. off the bottom. I lost the fish after just a couple seconds...must've been using a rubber hook. It didn't feel huge but i'm sure it was a trout in the 3-5 pound range. I moved south and into about 65 ft. and marked a couple fish on the finder but had no more hits. I had to leave about noon and that was all the action i had. Both spots i drilled were 7-9" thick...good solid clear ice. Good Luck! Let me know your secrets[Wink] i'd love to learn how to fish the Big Bear!

We had a great time at the bear last weekend. Had a bunch of first timers on the ice, it was a hoot. The fishin was slow but i managed to catch a mack on saturday and a cut on sunday. Attached is the cut, he was a native so he swam away unhurt, unmeasured and unweighed. Only took the time to take a shot of him and let him go, he sure was a beautiful fish. The mack however is another story. I actually have footage of this story: my nephew was fishing with us and had both of his poles outside the hooch, he came into the hooch to get warm for a minute and asked me to watch his pole out the window, well i took my eyes off it for a minute and when i looked back there was no pole, no pole holder. he didnt believe me when i told him it was gone so he didnt move to fast either, so when he got done crying (not really) he was getting out another pole to fix up and all of sudden all three poles in the hooch all got a bump in a row, then the pole outside my window got a bump and then the pole out further from that one got a bump and hooked up, well that pole was mine so running i go and grab my pole after telling my nephew to just stand guard on it so it didnt go in the drink until i got to it. well i start reeling and i definately got something on my pole, here comes my jig and its hooked on another line, so my nephew was there kneeled down my hole and grabbed the line and proceeded to pull up his lost pole but that wasnt all the mack was still on the other end of the line, he had swallowed the tube jig totally. So in your opinions, and i know you all got em, who gets credit for the catch. Everyone in my party said me but my nephew, go figure. lol i hope my pictures are attached ok, but with my luck they probably are not. Anyway it was a great weekend all around. Not to mention on sunday, i bet i had 4 different families come out and just ask how we were doing, so i showed em all the fish camera and they could see all the fish swimming on the bottom but not biting, they thought that was way cool, especially the kids. I even got my mom out there sunday. It was great!!

That is a sweet post! My last trip to the berry I was realing in a decent cut and noticed that my brother inlaws pole was getting hit. I could tell that something wird was up, so I just figured that the fish had gotten over and tangled with his line. When I got him thru the hole, I found that he had taken both our baits and they were both still in the fishes mouth. So who gets credit for that fish? Good times on the hard deck!
