Pineview Slabs!
#1
Orvy and myself met up with Hookjaw Brimhall and Flycasting yesterday afternoon on the east side for some crappie fishing. We were greeted to good conditions with very little wind and pretty much the whole place to ourselves. Shortly after our arrival Troll yaked by and we bs'd for a bit(thanks for the jigs). He had 5 slabs already and was looking for more.
I caught the first 2 fish then Orvy nailed 2 in a row. Tyler was next with 2 i think. It slowed down considerably over the next 1/2 hour so we moved around a bit. We got into them again shortly and Jeff and me started raking them in steadily. Tyler finally found a good spot and was hammerin' 'em. Matt finally picked up a nice one but had some trouble finding willing fish. About 5 or so matt and tyler left. Me and Jeff stayed and tried our best to finish out our limits. We did pretty good. Each catching about 15 slabs. I think Tyler caught 9. Nothing under 9 1/2" and 2 going 13 1/4"! The hot jig for me and Jeff was a chartreuse/red tube with smelly jelly.[Wink]
P.S. Flycasting, I did NOT throw one bait for tigers.[:p]

I had to leave right after I chatted with you guys, but 5 of those nice slabs was plenty for the 3 of us.
I'll be back for more.
It was great seeing all you guys, I need a BFT sticker for the kayak I guess.
Thanks for the posts to get me motivated and have a starting point to look for them.

Tell us a bit more about your tactics, if you don't mind. Were you just throwing jigs and bouncing on the bottom, fishing under a bobber. Those are some great looking fish, great job. Hope to hear more about your strategy and try to replicate it down here on Utah Lake.

We were usuing small tube jigs with bobbers and without. Brody was just boucing it off the bottom and slamming them. Tyler on the other hand was placing his bobber in the thickest cover he could find. Both tactics worked fairly well.

Ok, due to the OVERWHELMING request for more info, i don't want to reply to 13 pm's so here it is.
We fished Spring creek in the stick-ups right on the point below the bend. We stood in the water up to our wader tops and threw our tube jigs out past the edges of the sticks and reeled them in slowly. We all used different colored jigs and tyler was tipping his with crawler. Chartreuse/red 1 1/2" tubes on a orange head worked the best for me. The fish moved in and out often so move with them. There, any more ?? Water temp was cool to the touch.[sly]

I'll add this, I had fished where LH and those guys were for a solid 2 hours with nothing to show for it before they got there.
I got all 5 of mine in the next bay North of spring creek. Just South of the swim beach.
So, what this tells us is that they seem to like sloping, sandy bottom, near stick-ups in North coves. This could have something to do with the S winds, or not.
When I go back up in a few days I will look in the next cove North too. The one with the creek coming in.

Absolutly. There are several pull offs. It's about a 100 yd carry from the truck to the water at the most.
Fly flinger was in his tube, another BFT'er had his toon out there, I had my Kayak.
