FatCat LCS and SFC LCS 2008 versions
#1
It seems to me that the stripping apron-tray is the main difference, with those vertical support stays added.

Has anybody got first hand experience of the new 2008 models?

Once again I'm just doing my annual research prior to deciding ... Do I upgrade this year? .. Or stick with the Bullet I already have (that's working fine) for a while longer.

[cool][#0000ff]Sorry. Have not taken the time to conduct my own review yet. I will spend some time looking and comparing stats and get back on this one.[/#0000ff]

Is your new SFC the "new" version? .... [Smile]

[cool][#0000ff]Nope. We bought some closeout '07 models when we heard the '08s were going to feature PVC air bladders...etc.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Haven't bothered to look at the specs for the newest ones yet.[/#0000ff]

[cool][#0000ff]Okay, I went to the Outcast website, and looked at the purty pictures and then went to the page for PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS (link). Looks like they are still using quality urethane air bladders in the Fat Cat line. Vinyl bladders for the Fish Cats.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I plan to try to find a display model of the new craft, to get a look at the "adjustable height" stripping apron. It would have to be an improvement over the original wimpy "lap cover" that used to be provided as an apron. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Not sure that it might not be a bit too high at full height...for line stripping anyway. Most fly flingers I know prefer to keep their arms hanging down...not out to the sides...during the retrieve. Much less tiring.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]But, in looking at the specs, I cannot see anything else of significant difference.[/#0000ff]

As a dedicated flyfisher I can tell just by looking at the picture that the new apron is definitely too high. I advised a flyfishing friend who wanted to upgrade from a round tube to get a Fish Cat. Haven't seen him on the water yet but he told me he removed the apron as it was unusable. His tube is the 2008 model.

I saw this fellow fishing from shore a couple of days ago. He had spent the morning in his new Fish Cat and was changing it up for the afternoon. I floated by him in my Fat Cat and he noticed the "lap apron". (I had forgotten my rigid "Rubbermaid" tray and pulled the old line tray out of one of the pockets.) My friend remarked that my line tray was a lot more efficient for stripping than his "new and improved" model.

God Bless,
Don

I agree as a ffer. I don't use an apron on any of my rides. They are okay, but I strip the line to my left side, so on my Cardiac I have a plastic basket I strip the line into, on my Navigator and the H3 I just strip the line to my left side of the seat...big seats on those things thank Gawd!
About the best apron I have come across is the one on the Venture Outdoors Echo. That apron is PERFECT!

I see .
it looks like a cross between a self draining mesh and a tray. Medium height.

[#000000]It's the 8 foot Colorado.[/#000000]

The apron is just the right height, using it allows me to rest my forearms on the arm rests, and strip onto the apron.

I usually strip flies with my rod tip into the surface of the water, and doing so, does not create any inference with the apron.

[#000000]I have two of the same model, red and green. I have used them for several years, and have yet to find anything that I would complain about.[/#000000]

I have attached Venture's web site. Check out their video, and tell me if it inspires any safety features in your mind.

There is one other feature that I really like. Many people discuss and complain about "tracking" features or problems related to various toons. With the turned up ends of the pontoons, these boats are very easy to manuever, both while rowing and by kicking.

The Echo apron is a little different. It is snapped to the seat, but that is it. It is ridgid enough it holds its shape. It rests right on your lap.
