The weather was bad but the fishing was good! It was another cold and windy weekend for the most part, but the fish cooperated. Whether it's the fault of cold fronts or high gas prices, very few anglers were on the water the last few days.
Kokanee fishing in the Canyon region is [#ff0000]awesome[/#ff0000] right now and the bigger kokes are running around 17 inches. You'll find most of the them from 10 to 30ft, so planer boards with 1-2 oz. snap weights really help for these shallow, boat-shy fish. The pattern remained consistent all weekend and #2 Needlefish in pearl/red and Serpent spoons in watermelon, Mai-Tai, and Tequila sunrise produced fish. Dodgers in pink/green and red/white and/or Bolo blades in rainbow also proved effective. Boat speed was around 2.0mph.
We trolled up a few rainbows while fishing for kokanee, and lake trout by trolling closer to shore from 55-60ft. Lake trout were hitting larger spoons like #3 Needlefish in pearl/red and Flourescent green hot tiger running around 1.8-2.0 mph.
Smallmouth fishing was also pretty good for some nice-sized fish (up to 2lbs). Fish were relatively shallow, and hanging tight to structure with deep water access. I caught fish using Husky jerks and Hula grubs (black with silver flake) on both Friday and Saturday. Water temps were still a cold 52F in the main channel approaching the mid 50s in the backs of draws and coves. Hope it helps, Ryno
