Yuba perch attack
#1
Fished yuba friday evening tried for pike and walleye but the perch would have none of that. They hit everything we tried. They took up to 8 inch lures so all we ended up with friday was perch. Was going to fish yuba saturday but i had to pick my sons dirt bike up in delta. So me and the wife and son went out first thing sunday morning.Did not start out to good as soon as we got to painted rocks my water pump started acting up not good.So we launched and as soon as we did the wind started blowing hard. Not a very good start to the day.The wind made it hard to control the boat and the perch didnt help either by taking in our lures dumb perch.[:p] So i gave up and we decided to target the perch. Bruce started it off by catching a carp and we used that as bait along with some worms. The carp meat worked way better than worms.Lisa had the hot hand first catching the first 5 perch on my perch hole. Then me and bruce caught up and we had our limits quickly. The eprch action was fast the bait would not make it down to the bottom before a perch ate it.We even had at least half a dozen perch follow the hooked one up to the boat. The perch were big today average was 12 inches. If you enjoy catching and eating perch now is the time to do it.I forgot my camera so no pics but trust me there were a couple of big Smiles on my wife and bruces face.[Wink]

Good job Cesar! Nice report. When the walleye don't bite at Yuba, go after the perch. Great fun!

I started out in 5ft and drifted into 17 ft. The bigger perch were in between there.I anchored up in 12ft and casted out bait at all depths and they were all in there scattered. The bigger perch were mostly caught of carp meat. All the perch had their stomachs full of whitish minnows very small. I am guessing walleye frye but i could be wrong.Man my hands hurt from filleting 30 perch.[:p] I need to get me a electric fillet knife.Right now would be a great time to do a perch party at yuba plenty of those tasty suckers everywhere and with size.

There really wasnt many people fishing out there sunday mostly people playing. The walleye fishery there is over rated and yes some have been caught but not in big numbers. When the walleye fishery flourished there you could count on catching some to take home.

I caught a limit of perch this morning on the way home, from the shore. I was fishing off the dam. The fish were about 20ft out from shore, it's about 12ft deep or so right there. Also caught a 20" northern. I was just swimming a chartreuse single tail grub, it was the only thing I had with me. There are thousands of minnows in the shallows right now. I don't if they're carp or what.

They were all between 10" and 12". I haven't caught one over 12" yet, but it's bound to happen. I'm going to fish them pretty hard tomorrow and hope for some size.

Theres a lot of perch and some pike along the dam area. You can tube your way all along there and score some fish.I was fishing from my boat just off the buoys by the point . Good luck tomorrow and get some northerns.
