The koke fishing in big bend was amazing!!! We got over 30 of them, most 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 pounds. The hottest thing was a silver dodger such as a RMT hyper plaid with a squid such as the UV pink haze or the double glow pink no scent necessary. We also got a few on kokaneeking spoons and only one on a serpent spoon. I caught some with 50 feet of line, a 3oz. snapweight, 50 feet of line, a planer board and another 50 feet of line, I'm not sure how deep this was running though. All others were caught 25-45 feet down with the exception of one I got at 60 feet on laker gear. The most effective speed was 1.5-1.8 mph, with a few caught slower.
Once we got our fill of kokanee, we went on the laker hunt. After checking several spots, we found them in around 90 feet of water. We trolled everything in the box through them and didn't get a thing. Those lakers just baffle me! We did get a few over the river channel 60-70 feet down with the biggest no bigger than a stream brookie. Any tips on these would be greatly appreciated.

It is good to hear one more time that the kokanee are hitting so great. I am in the same boat as you are when it comes to the big lakers. You can catch as many pups as kokanee at the Gorge but you really have to know what you are doing for the huge ones.

If it is any help, I talked to a guy that lives close to Mtn. View, Wyoming when I was last at the Gorge. He said that he got a good twenty pounder in the area you fished in about 80 foot. He was using 6-8 inch white and gray tube jigs. He got the bite really yearly in the morning. The next day, he said he only got a single bite, no Macks.

That's great that you were able to get into the kokes, a friend of mine was up there this last week and a 24 3/4" 5.6# koke was caught out of his boat.

I'd flip out over one that big!!! It probably would have been a record later in the season.
