I fished the View today and it turned out to be a lot of work. First, there was the issue of simply navigating the snowy roads. Then there was the problem of finding a place to park a 2 wheel drive vehicle at the narrows. I actually got out and cleared an entire spot and path with my snow shovel. The trucks didn’t have to, since some plowing has taken place.

It snowed the whole time, and there were actually quite a bit of people there. Unfortunately it was rather slow. Seems like lately I have been hitting the ice at bad times. I'm not doing as well as I did last year, but the season is still young. A couple of guys who fished yesterday and caught 30 or so crappie were frustrated at how the fishing seemed to have taken a dive only a day later. I’m sure that Lunkerhunter will go wake them again though.

I didn’t have to drill because some nice people left a lot of open holes for me from the day before, so I was able to move around a lot to search for fish in the 40 to 50 foot depth range. I used the new Humminbird sonar (not a flasher) and was amazed at how thick the schools of little perchies and other baitfish were. I haven’t seen clouds that thick for a while. All I could think was that the tiger muskies sure do have easy pickings right now. No wonder it’s so difficult to get them to bite sometimes.

The sonar showed very few fish on the bottom, most of them were suspended. I put my glow jigs tipped with maggots a few feet off the bottom where they were and ended up catching some good sized crappies. This is the first time I’ve caught “real” crappie, since I barely count the little dinks I got in North Carolina a few years back.

Pulling the shelter fully loaded with gear back up the hill in the snow was quite a workout. [mad] That's all I have to say about that. I left earlier than I would have liked to since the fishing wasn't all the great and neither was the weather, but I might try again tomorrow.

I took 2 fish home and cooked them up. White, flaky, and tasty!
