screen protectors
#1
Ok, so I just gifted myself a swank new finder. Was wondering if I need to buy any expensive accessories to protect it? You know like a leather pouch or plastic screen shield.

It might not be a bad idea. The Eagles and Lowrance units usually come with one. Cabelas and Bass Pro have some good ones. Welcome to BFT[cool]

I like covers with soft material....you don't have to worry about moisture in the morning or when its wet out.
They have hard plastic ones too, but that'd just be to make sure its not getting banged up.

They run under twenty bucks so it's not too expensive!

I fixed mine the redneck way. They sell this stuff at Home Depot that you cover your house windows with in the winter. It's basically a shrink wrap. It's clear and you put it on whatever and when you heat it with a hair drier, it shrinks and is nearly un-noticable.
That's all I did to mine was put a piece of that over the face of it, kinda overlapping the side so that it would go around and stick to the back of the unit. Then when I shot it with the hair drier it shrunk down and is now fully operational with a clear plastic cover over it.[Wink] This wasn't a new unit of course, I wouldn't have risked ruining a new one, but it turned out to work fine.

Here’s the deal: you don’t have to buy any protection for your finder, but you’re better off doing so. You probably spent a small fortune on it, so spend a tiny bit more to prevent it from getting scratched or spoilt. Try navprotector.com, they have some good protectors that are not expensive either.
