Can't go wrong with Quantum. Usually any reels from Quantum that I have bought over a hundred dollars have been great quality.

I know I'm going to start a brand war but here it goes. I personally have never had much luck with Quantum reels. I have tried them over and over thinking they have gotten better with the latest technology...nope. I do have a Kinetic on it's last leg and an old Ion on a UL rod that I barely use. I keep coming back to my Shimanos and Daiwas.
If your looking for a spinning reel try the Daiwa Exceller. For casting, Shimano Curado or a Pflueger Supreme. Again, not trying to start a brand war. Just giving my experience. HockeyMan [signature]

Hey Me too. I learned to cast with a level wind last summer and am hooked on it. I got a quantum Manatu (sp) I have been looking on e bay and have found several new touring editions for 120.00, I also have my eye on the new U.S. Reel level wind. Like I don't have enough fishing reels and poles. I fish for ten species of fish and have quite a collection of rigs to catch them with. If you catch that big one a quality reel is important. I successfully landed a 38 pound carp on a bass set up with 6 pound line with a quantum catalyst pti reel and the drag worked perfectly but the spinning reels put a lot of line twist in that you don't get with the level wind. I would go with the upgrade.
