I am new to Ogden and am itching to hit a couple of the rivers soon.
I have been searching old posts and it seems that both the Ogden and Weber are viable trout streams.
Any particular favorites spots out there? I have a bit of free time during the day and would love to get out on either soon! Any particular patterns that I should have in my arsenal?
I would really like to try somewhere closer to home first. I have read a lot about the Weber near Echo, but not a lot about it "in-town" or "not so far up the canyon". I have no idea where to start on the Ogden River. Is there anywhere "in-town" or do I need to head up that canyon too?
Any advice is appreciated.

As far as the weber is concerned, there are many, many spots that produce fish. Right in town near the Riverdale Police Station is a good stretch to fish with any kind of nymphs, You might get a hatch if the temps get high enough. Mt Green up the canyon has some great fishing also. The further you go, the harder it is to find a place to fish. You CANNOT park on the sides of I-84 between Riverdale and Morgan or you may get a ticket. Henefer/Echo and further up near Wanship has some quality fish uncluding browns, cutts, bows, and whitefish. Any standard nymph will work if presented right.
The Ogden is a very small river and it is hard to fish. You have to just about crwal up to the holes to avoid spooking fish. Tiny nymphs and dries work if you can slip in on them. Below the canyon from Washington BLVD up to the mouth is good fishing. The canyon can produce but gets hit hard. If you want to drive a little further to the South Fork of the Ogden, it is a very fun river to fish. There are alot of parking areas up that way.
My favorite flies on both rivers are BH Prince Nymphs, any type of hares ear, midge larvae, wd40's, and sometimes streamers. One of my favorites is the Zebra Midge. Hope this helps and let us know how you do.[cool]

LH2 gave some good info on both. I'll add for the Weber that this time of year you need to fish below Lost Creek as almost no water is coming out of Echo reservoir. However in a couple months they'll start letting water out and it's good fishing above Lost Creek as well. When it rains hard or a lot of runoff entering the Weber down below sometimes the only place worth flyfishing will be further up below Echo to Lost Creek or possibly a bit further down. After rains or snowmelt check the USGS site for water flows and don't be too discouraged if it's blown out below as you drive up the canyon. It's almost always fishable somewhere year round. Some of my best fishing on the Weber have been on those cloudy rainy days when the big browns lose their usual caution.

Ive tried a few times to get up above Lost Creek around the right hand side of the dam? But theres a gate a little ways up? Is there an alternative way in just a audi and not a truck or suv?

Up there I mostly fish on the state land on the left (NE) side of I-84 by the first Hennifer exit (#112) and then on the private land with access sites on South Echo Frontage Road (right or Southwest side of I-84) above the second Hennifer exit (#115). I've never fished closer to the dam than that. I might be wrong but without landowner permission probable the only legal way to get up there is to use the access lower down and walk up the river itself.

the weber is a great place to fish i always go to wanship and always done good (thats because its the only place i know how to get to but i get my truck in a few days and goin to explore more) the smallest i caught there was 13 inches and the biggest was 25 lots of big fat whites there if u fish the bridge right by the over pass theres alot of whites under there ( i walked under there a few weeks ago and didnt see them at first but was about 10 under there) i use bh pheasent tail #20 - 22 and scuds but i put on a streamer first as an attractor best of luck maybe we will run into each other sometime

Sorry Lunchbox. First off there is the 15 post rule. I know they are a great guide service but I know of several others locally (in fact I work for one) so can't really advertise for one and not the others.

Take the I-15 exit for 12th street in Ogden and head east up Ogden Canyon to Pineview reservior. Stay to the south of Pineview and head to the east side. Turn right to Monte Cristo. This road winds right by S. Fork. When you get to the turn off for Causey, turn right again and head to Memorial Park.
