BenTim and I started out in the HEAVY rain this morning to try for some crappie and to try out my new boat. At first we had second thoughts but got out the rain gear and unloaded while trying to hide from the downpour,
After the rain stopped around 9 AM it turned out to be a really nice day for us but the fish in the areas that we fished had so many shad to eat that they weren't interested in plastics, emoHoppingmad We only managed one keeper all day but did catch about a dozen throwbacks, emoRedface Crappie mostly caught on bluffs, none around docks today, emoScratch I caught one nice LM Bass that was 16 inches and pretty healthy. We saw lots of dead shad floating on the water and the seagulls were just having a ball today, emoRolleyes
We spotted another boat about a hundred yards up river and he seemed to have his hands full so I kept an eye on him. Pretty soon he was calling for help so we went to see what was up, emoSmile There was JimBo and the rod was bent over double and he
was in a real struggle with something. While trying to get the fish up to the surface but not snap that little 4 lb crappie line he had a real fight on his hands, emoTongue Pretty soon we saw big bubbles and at that point we were pretty sure he had a big ole cat. I dipped up a nice big blue who was pretty tired out and he was returning a whole bunch of shad to the lake, emoRolleyes As you can see in the picture, ole JimBo was pretty happy with his catch.
Water was lightly stained and temps ranged from 47* to 51* in most places. Current was light all day.
We had a nice day after the rain just not much catchin' for us today.
