What will come on first for bass out here?
#1
This is for TD or anyone else that has an opinion. I'm really getting itchy for tubing for warm water fishies, especially smallies and largies. Here's the list of spots I hang my line in. Pineview, Pelican, Mantua, Flaming Gorge, Condie, Glendale, Weston, Devil Creek and any others in this category, like Starvation, etc. Any thoughts on what pond will come on first. My best guess is Pelican but it's soooooo far.[frown] There are others but i need to take my best fishing buddy (Sparky) and there are several that discriminate against him. I'd also consider Blue Lake but the risk of theft/break ins turn me off. I'm sure I could get my fix out there but,---------, don't want to risk oing alone with tent trailer and truck with the problems I've heard about.[:/]

Come to California, the bites on. Warm water, thats relative, but there is no snow on the ground. Its a little early to trunk it. Thje Bass are shallow and stupid, in that great rush of pre-spawn feeding. Even I can catch them...

[cool][#0000ff]Pelican will likely be first. It is shallow and the largemouth bite almost anytime there...even through the ice.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Smallmouth will stay deeper than 30-40 feet for another 6 weeks or so. Once the shallows warm to 55 to 60 at Pineview you will get them.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Don't overlook Mantua. Some big bass lay up in real shallow water along the north shore (facing south) in the afternoons starting soon.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Or...head south to Sand Hollow or Powell.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I might be up for a trip to Blue Lake soon.[/#0000ff]

How do you handle the potential break ins and theft out there while your fishing? Even if you go with someone, this means someone has to stay back and not fish, witch is a pain.[mad] Do you time your trips hoping that there are a lot of divers out there to hwlp keep watch?

[cool][#0000ff]From what I have heard, the problems have dropped way off. The Sheriffs started checking the area a few times and busted a few of the guys that were doing the most damage.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Also, I will not be tubing anymore. I can catch just as many fish from shore...where I can watch my vehicle if I am fishing the big lake. But, if I go out I will probably fish mostly the one small lake, for tilapia. You can park right next to it and fish next to your vehicle Lots more tilapia and some decent bluegills and a few bass too.[/#0000ff]

[cool][#0000ff]Yeah, I know where you like to fish. That is a long walk away from your vehicle. Not sure I would do it even if there were some divers keeping watch.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Seems like we always have to make choices.[/#0000ff]
