Okay here it is. I hit Willard today about 12:30pm. When I got on the water I powered up and headed south as far as I could. Not much change there since the last time I was out about a week ago. The BIG change happened when I headed north. There is a canal opened up between the north bank and the ice, its about 30 yards wide. I was able to go all the way to the corner of the north and west bank. I turned and followed the west bank almost all the way to the south/west corner, but the canal isn't as wide and the ice was forcing me too close to the shore so I turned around before I got all the way around the SW corner.
Now that you are all wetting you pants to get out there again, I'll tease you a little more. The water temp was a good 47.9 all along the north shoreline. The west shoreline ranged from 45.1 to 47.5, and yes I did keep track.
I marked a school of bait fish at one point along the north shore and even marked some bigger fish just outside the school, but no bites. The big suprise was when I saw some open water about 600 yard from the shore about half way up the north shoreline. I though I would check it out. Water was 19-22 feet deep and fish EVERYWHERE. I looked at the ol' lowrance and couldn't believe it! Then I looked at my watch and saw that it was 3:15pm, so now I could believe it. Ya see I was supposed to be off he water at 3:00pm, so of corse since it was time to go, I found the fish.
Okay, I thought, I will give it just one pass. (I was trolling) BAM----ZINGGGG, my first Wiper ever! 14" and a blast, it took my more than 6 min to get him in the boat. Okay I thought I will give it just one more pass. POW---ZINGGGG, a second wiper, about 12" long. Then the phone rang, yes I have my cell phone with me in the boat. It was my wife. "Did you pick the kids up, sweetie", she asked. "I am on the road now," I told her, then ZINGGGG. "What was that?" She asked... "Uuuuuh nothing....I gotta go!" It was a 16" WALLEYE!!! And he was beautiful!!! Hold on, hold on, heres where you can call me a lier and I can't blame you... He was milking! In 19 feet of water. The spawn is going to hit within the next few days if I had to guess.
So I said to myself, "Self, you are in a HEEP of trouble with your wife, and you better go you transum moving!" See, I was supposed to be doing yard work today, but... well... I don't know what happened.[crazy]
The phone rang again while I was hauling butt for the marina, so I killed the motor and it was the wife. "Hi honey...[blush] "Did you get him?" She asked. I said, "Hell yeah! Baby I found 'em their SLAMING the rapal... uh oh..." "Damn right 'UH OH' we'll talk when I get home!" "SHIT!!!" I yelled when she hung up the phone. So I got to the marina and loaded up the boat. As I was heading to pick up the kids from Day Care, I found myself talking to my wife as if she were there in the truck with me. "We'll talk we you get home, your damn right we'll talk... Better yet, I'll talk and YOU listen. I'm the man, I'm the king of this castle, and if I want to go fishing I will, when ever I want. If you don't like it, there's the DOOR! You gonna tell me that I can't go fishin' and I need to do yard work? How dare you!!!??? Who the hell do you think you are???!!!" Well, lets just say that even with all the rehearsing, thats not quite how the conversation went when the wife got home....[pirate]
I can drive a boat with only one eye, right?
