EricM, Nick dam, 22 lb drum, channel cats, and white bass, 4-23-09
#1
Yep, I went back to the face of another dam - but today we got along! Oh, there was some bumping and thumping, and maybe a scratch or two, but that goes with this type of fishing.

I threw the cast net and couldn't haul it back on board, and when I finally dragged it over the side I wound up dumping 50 BIG gizzard shad, 100 nice threadfin, and a 3-1/2 foot long gar onto the floor of my boat, all of which left a thick goo of fish slime and scales. emoDoh The threadfin went into the bait tank, the gizzards went into a cooler for catfish bait, and the gar - after considerable wrestling to get it untangled from my net (damn, they have a lot of teeth!) went back into the river.

I had a hoot today, although I really overdid it and am totally wiped out tonight. I caught (in a very long day) 42 drum, 3 channel catfish, and 3 big white bass. One of the drum (22 pound) will set another IGFA line class record if accepted but it will take at least 60 days before I find out for sure. Most of the drum were roughly the same size with just the occasional fish that was much bigger or smaller than the 13-14 pound normal size.

To my suprise, I got rained on twice while I was out there. I tried to watch the striper fishermen, but I never saw a single striper boated while I was looking. There were a number of white bass and of course drum, and a couple of boats were targeting catfish, mostly channels, and were doing quite well.

Here's the best picture of the day:
