Henrys/Ririe Report
#1
As a family we decided to go ahead and hit the opener at Henrys. We normally go down to Preston but decided to wait a week or two until the bass and bluegill are really hot.

Anyhow we camped at the county boat dock on Friday night I couldn't leave until after work and we ended up being the last ones into the campground for the night. As they say you get what you paid for.[laugh] Everyone was pleasant and kind in anticpation of the next days slaughter errr I mean fishing. I could not sleep not because I was dreaming of the next days pescatorial persuits but mainly the fact that their were several RVs with generators running late into the night, dogs barking, children crying, and cars driving in and out all night. So at 2 A.M. I decided to make the most of it and go fishing.

To my surprise their were already 10 people or so on the docks screaming and yelling about their success. I decided to hold off on the dock fishing and launched steelfishers drift boat instead. My son and I started fishing in the county boat dock bay, but far enough from the party to feel like we were fishing. It took me a while to figure out how to catch them but I ended up with nine before another boat was launched.

Here is one that is a little strange. It has almost no upper lip. Makes you wonder how it survived to this size. I guess it doesn't take an upper lip to be a bug eater.

Later in the day I moved into the glory hole with my sons. We didn't catch many out their although my son did break off a truly big hybrid. He was very upset with me for not being more aggresive with the net.

Later in the morning we decided to try and find a spot for the kids to fish near the docks where everyone was still going crazy. We shouldered in for a few minutes and all the kids got into plenty of fish. I couldn't take that for very long but we ended up with over twenty fish for the day. Not bad by most peoples standards. We enjoyed camping and slept better on Sat. night. Packed up and went home on Sun. morning. The docks were already packed and they were hauling them in when we left.

Monday I intended to be productive with school, and lawn work and such, but Steelfisher came home earlier than expected. When I saw him I could tell that he had not had enough fishing for the last three weeks so we hatched a plan to get over to Ririe for the evening.

The fishing was slow, but we were happy we ended up getting a few landing eleven small but hardfighting smallmouths on tube jigs and wacky rigged senkos.

I caught a couple of largemouth at Weston with the same problem this spring. Not quite sure how they munch down a minnow like that, but they seemed fairly healthy.
