Haven't heard much about the fishing there. Wondering if any smallies are biting. Wanting to take out the boat and try around the dam. Would that be worth a trip over there. I have never fished it before.
Anything going on at American Falls

The Smallies are still biting really well below the dam, as far as on top it has been extremely slow, in the last 2 weeks i have fished it all over from seagul bay to the dam fishing for bass/trout, id go below the dam if it were me

Thanks for the info. Where would be a good starting point below the dam. All i have is a 14 foot boat with a mud motor so i know i am limited when it comes to getting around. Not knowing the water makes me a little nervous down below the dam. Should i be concerned, I'm sure there are places i should stay away from.

Right now the water is so high towards the dam you are pretty safe, there is still a lot of fiberglass boats cruising around even jet skis... (yes talking about the river) You should be fine it has a really easy access basically in the middle of town as well as a handicap dock. PM if u want some more info!

I went below the dam a couple days ago and caught a couple of smallies. The bigger ones seem to be hanging a little bit off the rocks but they will be moving in closer before long.

Went fishing below the dam on 5/30/09 from about 7p to 9p and fishing didn't pick up until about 8:30. Caught a 11.5 inch small-mouth bass and a sucker fish. Fishing buddy also caught a small-mounth. Water was a little high and alot of carp and sucker fish trolling the shore. I was on the side with the boat launch.
I must say that the state of the area was very trashed. Every fishing hole had trash (not just th ocassional worm container but wrappers and bags, etc). This is the worst I have seen it. Seems like this memorial day was the most crowded I have seen it with tents in every nook and crany. I don't think I would want to camp somewhere where people have to walk through my camp to get around. Maybe it is time for the city to start charging for people to camp down there. It would sure help fund the upkeep. [signature]
