SNUFFY, Ft. Loudon, bass, 6-27, nada
#1
I went out yesterday with the intention of getting some break-in time on the new engine. And doing a little fishing !!
I knew I had a limited time before it would be impossible to do either once the wakeboaters and chiggers got out ! Hit the water about 6:15 am and dropped the Johnson trolling motor to try out the new 54# unit on my old 41# frame. worked like a charm!!
decided to stop and check out the spot where we caught our fish a month ago during a club TX that we placed second. Really didn`t expect them to be there but lo and behold they were there. Caught three keeper LM in 3 cast on the same nuthin` offshore spot on punkin`seed/chart tail ole monster. kept workin` the area and wound up with 1 more on worm and 1 on t-rig Paca Craw and one on a Sexy Shad DD22 that I found floating during the TX.
This particular area has flat sandy point falling off to 34ft on back channell on other side. I really expected them to be in the deeper area. The 5 fish we caught during the TX were just barely keepers 14" and were really puny lookin fish. We threw back about 15 during the tx but the ones I caught yesterday had really fattened up.
Put the boat on the trailer about 11:30 which was about an hour later than i should .Decided to fight the crowds and get some time on the engine and ran another 20 miles or so up river before turning around and heading to the ramp. Supposed to run between 4000-5400 during break-in......really hard to do while maneuvering 3-4 foot wave going in 14 different directions at the same time.
Now I remember why I don`t fish in the daytime during summer !!
