Polo called my yesterday and invited me to chase schoolers with him today. Thought about sleeping in but glad I got out. We started the day at 6AM on Polo's schooler spot and right off the bat he catches two on a 4" worm. As the light got up the fish started schooling all around us. Once again Polo boated 2-3 while all I could do was watch. Took me a couple of times before I got the hang of it but I did finally settle in and started catching some. The fish would make a very small ripple, not busting like you normally see. Polo was throwing a chug bug and I had on a Sammy. You had about 3-5 seconds to get the bait on top of the boil. If you were late they would not touch. Some fish would hit the baits as soon as they hit the water. Fish would slap the bait up in the air 2 feet or they would just jump clear over the bait. The bite lasted until about 7:30 so for 1.5 hours of effort we boated 22 bass and one white. All fish were LM except for one smallie and one little spot plus I got a white bass on a crank. Most fish were in the 12-14" range but we did have a couple of small keepers. Fun, fun, fun. I think Polo had me 2 to 1 on numbers.
We left there and hit a few ledges looking for more fish. Ended up catching one more bass on a drop shot finese worm that turned out to the be big fish of the day right at 3.5 lbs. Fish would have weighted more but was very skinny.
We ended the day on a dock that I was told "always" has crappie on it.emoPoke Notta. I did stick a keeper size LM that wraped me up in a brush pile on a drop shot. We trolled over and could see the fish. As we tried to get it free it got off.
While we were fishing one of the mid river tri-pods a boat literally drove over our lines and ramed the posts, knocking some of the branches out of the osprey nest. We were sitting no more than 25 feet from the posts, casting to them. Unreal. I thought for sure they were going to knock the nest down and sort of thought they were going to knock the tri-pods down. They said they were going to crappie fish. There are some really dumb people in the world with NO common sense. You might recoginze them from the picture below. We left it to them as they spooked off anything that might have been there.
Great morning to be on the water. Thanks for the ride Polo, it was a blast.
