Chain lakes report
#1
I had a great trip into the Chain lakes with my sons, one of my brothers and my dad. We hiked in on last Thursday morning and camped at the lower lake. The fishing was very good there most of the day, with super fishing in the mornings. We made the short hike up to the middle and upper lake on Friday. It was pretty windy and a little tough fishing but I still got lucky enough to get a few fish from each of these lakes. Saturday morning we hiked back up to the upper lake early in the am and the fishing was great. All of the fish we landed were brook trout. Some of the prettiest brookies I've ever seen. They ranged in size from a couple of them about 8" to most of them being around 12". The lower lake held the same length of fish however they were long and skinny with the brooks in the upper lake being much fatter. We caught them the best on a small mosquito imitation on about 3' of leader drug behind a bubble. We casted parallel to the bank no more than 8' out and made a slow retrieve. They would smack that fly almost every cast. A silver jakes worked well mid day during the wind, and a small white super duper worked some in the mornings, but they just couldn't resist that fly.

So if you are going to be in the area don't forget your pole, and a few small flies. Also I would suggest you take some bug spray because the bugs will be biting you as much as the fish are biting them.
