Spence contacted me and made arrangements for a guide trip for blue cats for him and his very good friend Jeff from Minnesota. I had warned him about the "dog days" fishing and that the current flow was going to be poor, but they wanted to get out anyway, so we met this morning to try our luck and skills at my usual fishing spot. The fishing was somewhere between awful and worse. We struggled terribly to put only about a dozen or 15 fish into the boat. We managed one fine fish at 22 pounds, but the next largest was only 8 lbs. Ol' Nickajerk not only put the big fish in the boat, but also the smallest that he has ever caught in my boat. And it was HOT out there. We drank ourselves silly on various soft drinks and water, and nobody peed in the 7 hours we were on the water. Since I haven't been out in quite a while due to various and sundry knee and pacemaker issues, I slathered SPF 30 sunscreen on all exposed surfaces and was saved from the awful fate that has befallen both Spencer and Jeff today (despite warnings) and that will entail difficult sleep and the peeling of large patches of very sensitive skin in the near future. It was great to get out there, but wore me out! I'm looking forward to the fall bite (and cooler temps!)
