HOLY CRAP!!

So I don't know if anybody else has heard about this yet, I just found it on the internet, and I assume it's legitimate because it says so in an article from ESPN and several other independent sources.
A couple of weeks ago both the Rainbow and the Brown Trout world record were broken! The rainbow was 48 lbs and the brown was 41 lbs with some change! The rainbow came from Saskatchewan and was caught by the brother of the guy who caught the last one two years ago! The brown is from michigan. Here's some pics and a link to an article, legit or not, I'm drooling!

It's not supposed to. It's labeled "RAINBOW" [Wink]. Sure you don't need that hooked on phonics CD? (j/k)[Image: happy.gif]

Very impressive fish, but I'm kind of questioning whether genetically altered fish should really be considered for record status. They can't breed, and so they can't pass along their genes anyway.

Do they have separate divisions for natural vs triploid fish?

great point i hadnt thought about this. but a tryploid is suppose to grow at close to double the speed.

There was a debate on this very thing in either Field and stream or Outdoor Life last year. They said the the IGFA does not seperate them into genetically altered species. Triploids are still covered by the title of rainbow trout. It does seem to give them an unfair advantage, but at the same time they are still a rainbow.[:/]

Those are awesome fish. Fish like that must eat huge amounts of bait fish or stockers just to get that big.
