San Diego?
#1
Hello all,

I know this is a question probably better asked on the CA board, but I know a lot of you have experience in Southern California, and I trust your advice.

I am planning a trip to San Diego for the first week of November. I hope to do a couple of guided fishing trips while I'm there. Salt and/or fresh. I'm wondering what species would be best to target down there at that time of year?

Also, any recomendations on guides would be much appreciated!!!

Thanks,

James

Yellowtail and Yellowfin Tuna, overnight trip I hope. You will need no more than 30 lb line. H & M landing has great boats and Skippers.

The first week of november is a crapshoot on the ocean down there. Some years the bite will last into november if you're lucky. Many years the tuna up and disappear overnight at the end of october.

Like mactuna said, H & M is very good. Point Loma Sportfishing and Fisherman's Landing round out the big three down there. The all have websites. Keep an eye on the fishcounts on the website before you go.

If there is still tuna and yellowtail around, it will be worth your while to go out. The crowds will likely be very light. The afternoon winds usually lay down around the first of november too. (unless there is a storm moving through) Some of my best days on the ocean there were in nov-january.

Good luck! Jim

[fishin]My fishing buddy and I hit San Diego on on the 27th-28th. We went out on the Condor out of Fishermans Landing. We left at 10:00 PM, motered all night and into the morning till the water temp. went from 68 to 69 degrees and started trolling. We hooked up on skipjacks but didn't even stop to pull them in, soon we were into the yellowfin tuna bite. Caught maybe 30 and started trolling and looking for kelp paties. Each paty was a frenzied bite. When there were less than 4 or 5 fish on lines we moved on. We caught fish till our arms ached. I caught 6 dorado, one was 45 inches long. Caught Tuna till we didn't want to catch any more. We couldn't turn them lose if they gaft them so we would cut the line. We headed back with 3 more hours of fishing left ,but we all had caught all we wanted to. What a trip. It was a 11/2 day trip. We were going on a overnight but the #s were poor. They just didn't have time to get south enough to get into the fish. They are moving south.
