Awesome day on Scofield - Oct 10th
#1
My son-in-law and myself arrived at Scofield and commenced fishing at 8:00 a.m. We fished until 3:00 p.m. and caught 88 fish. This would normally be an exceptional day, the only problem - 90% of the fish were between 10 & 12 inches. We caught both rainbows and cutts. Never saw a tiger??

We were trolling using 2 downriggers and two poles long lining. The poles with long lines did the best. We were using both Rapalas & LC Pointers. Color did not seem to matter; however, I think the flouresent green Rapala (tail dancer) worked consistantly all day.

Biggest fish of the day was a 19-inch cutt. We did manage to bring home a limit of rainbows that were 1.25 to 1.5 pounds a piece.

Even though the fish were small, we still had a great day. If I did my math correctly, it works out that we average a fish every 5 minutes for 7 hours - that is a great day in anybody's book. If you have kids, it would definitely worth taking them to Scofield for a day of fishing.

Sounds like a great day to me. Strange that there were no tigers in the mix.

Thanks for the post. It sounds like they are stocking it well. It should be amazing in a year or two. Big fat rainbows.

Where did you find the concentrations of fish? If I have a kick boat can I get to where you were catching all the small rainbows? That would be fun on a fly. I have not fished there for two years.

Everywhere (several places in the dam channel, two places by the island, and two places on the west side) we fished Saturday we were able to catch small rainbows one right after another. You should have no problem reaching them from a kick boat.

Like Kent stated - we caught fish every where we fished in the reservoir. We stayed mainly out into the middle of the reservoir and to the channel to the north (Madsen Bay??) We tried to fish out by the island; however, there were too many weeds floating in the water and it made it difficult to fish. So we did not get any closer than a 1/4 to 1/2 mile to the island.

In a couple of years with the slot limit, it is going to be great fishing for the cutts & tigers - maybe even a mini Strawberry?

Thanks for the helpful information guys. I hope to get down there before the ice forms. Maybe we will see each other there. Tight lines.

Kent do you mind me asking what method of fishing you did down there. And possibly what colors more rigs worked best? thanks.

We casted Lucky Crafts (had one break off -- ouch), Rapalas, tube jigs, Kastmasters, spinners and a few other things that I can't think of right now. We vertically jigged tube jigs and similar type jigs tipped with crawler or cut bait. Nearly everything caught fish and color didn't seem to matter. Sometimes when we moved we would leave whatever we were fishing before moving in the water and we would get hits every time.
