Any new reports on the ice conditions at Henry's?

It froze over last Wed. then the wind came up and blew it off. The water temp is right there it is just a matter of time and no wind to get it going. I am hoping by next weekend.[:/]

I really need the ice to form. I got the ok to spend Thanksgiving on the ice. Yes, my family will be having Thanksgiving dinner on Henry's if it is frozen. We are planning on bringing the turkey fryer and setting up the dinner in my command post. I am planning on spending three days there on Thanksgiving, that Friday, and Sat.

Lets hope it doesn't freeze too quickly. I will be fishing it the 23rd, 24th and 27th and I enjoy a clear 3 inches of ice.

Has the ice ever been a full three inches thick during the Henry's Ice Season i.e. the last week of Nov.?[crazy] J/K.

I too hope for safe ice which usually means a quick deep freeze for a few days. However I have been known to gird up my loins and tip toe like Fred Flintstone on a bit less than that. Like I have said before I always where my life jacket in the early season and I carry a throw rope with me at all times. Still it is not for everyone.[cool]

Everett and I found 4-5 inches the Wednesday before Thanksgiving last year when the rest of the lake was 2-2.5 inches. This year has been way colder and it is supposed to get way cold over the next 10 days. I don't want there to be very safe iec the weekend before turkey day as all the crowds will come out over the weekend and scare all the fish.

So I'll agree to the lake capping next Thursday, 1 inch by next Friday, 2 inches by next Sunday with a vey fishable 2.5 inches by next Monday. Agreed?[Wink]

I have broken 1" ice in the outlet the last day of October a few years ago. I agree it will cap within a week if there is no wind.

I took the 30th off work to try my luck ice fishing Henry's. Never tried it before but after hearing some reports from last year and watching an episode of Jared Scott outdoors catching Henry's hybrids with little dinky ice poles I've got to try that. Where do people ice fish up there? I was thinking of trying around the cliffs, but I don't want to be the only one out there. My theory is to follow somebody out who is much bigger than me and then fish off to the side of them. How much do you weigh Windriver LOL.

Maghunter if you can go before the 30th I would do it because it will get hammered for 3 or 4 days before then. You are smaller than Windriver so you would be safe to follow him out on the ice.

Did you make it out for steelhead? I didn't see a report from you. I haven't been able to go this fall and its doubtful that I will be able to ice fish Henrys this year. This working 7 days a week is getting old.

The Staleys area is packed with people. The fishing has been very good in years past, but I promised myself that I am going to explore other parts of the lake this year.

I guess everybody is telling me I need to lose weight. Well you all are probably right. [angelic] I can say this I don't get very cold in the winter.

Windriver I was not implying that you need to loose weight. I was implying that Maghunter was too skinny and needs to gain some. LOL

LOL. If you take me seriously you've got problems. I've only met you on the Ice Windriver and its hard to judge someones build when they are wearing ten layers of clothes. But now I know to look for the big blue clam shelter and the ice will be fine [laugh]. I was showing my parents pictures of Brown bears I had taken in Alaska and some of them I was very close to. My Mom asked if I was worried about being charged I said nah, I just made sure there was somebody close by who couldn't run as fast as me [laugh].

I haven't made it Steelhead fishing yet this fall I've been using all my free time doing house work (my wife is sick and prego) and chasing elk. I've got this whole week off so if I get my elk I might still try and break that rod in.

I just ordered a Cabelas shelter just like yours Windriver so look for a big black shelter with Cabelas on it and stop by.
