Echo res sat am...all day...
#1
Had plans to head to the berry sat but things changed at the last minute and my friend and I went up to Echo. I had gotten some advice from another friend where to go and how to fish there by him so I thought I would give it a try. I had never even driven by the lake before. So this would be a first for me.

My neighbor SBW would join me later after he coached his son's Bball game around noon. I was set up at 615 am and did as I was told and fished just 6 feet down in 50 ft of water and I caught fish after fish as they would swim by. They stayed at that depth until around 11 am and then they moved consistently at 12-15 feet. Good thing I had my fish finder so we could tell. (To get on the ice you have to carry everything down by hand over large boulders) I would bet that between the two of us we caught around 30 fish and lost I would guess around 30 more. We had everything packed up at 4pm but the poles. We just kept catching fish every 10 minutes an we just couldn't walk away from a great day of fishing.
The fish were all rainbows and ranged from 12-17" and would fight all the way to the top of the ice. We had 2-3 fish that took all our poles bait and got all four of the lines tangled up swimming all over the place.

[cool]That sounds like a fun day out on the ice! I'm craving some slimers for the grill. Gonna have to get out on Echo and catch a few soon before this warm weather melts the edges away...

Nice report! Lots of good info. What part of the lake were you at? Any access for a snowmobile from where you parked? Any slush?

That is awesome!! I haven't been up to Echo this year because all my friends have told me it was slow. None of them have been fishing real shallow like you were though. I will have to make it up there and give that a try.

Were you off the freeway side or across by the marina etc?

There is no access at the parking lot but since the lake isn't really big you can snowmoble I'm sure in less than 5 minutes from the dock or ramp. I fished at the first pull out for parking that you come to and is the closets to the dam itself. I walked out about 50 yards straight out from the rocks from there. I also went up monday of this week(yesterday) and fished the same holes at the same time and only caught 10 and lost 10 in 4 hours. So it just all depends on which way the wind is blowing I guess.

Thanks for the updated info! I am assuming you are parking on the east side and walking out from there?

Sounds like you had a great trip. Mine was a bit slower last time. Any special lure/bait combo that worked better than the others? You can PM me if you don't want to share generally.
