My name is Kevin Clegg and I am the president of GROGA (Green River Outfitters and Guides Association). We have recently built a survey to capture statistical information concerning fisherman's perspective of the Green River. We will use the survey results to propose flow patterns to the Bureau of Rec and Western Area Power Admin. We will share the results with the local Division of Wildlife biologist.
Please take a couple of minutes and participate in the survey.

So are you some type of fringe group, that hopes to influence the Bureau of Rec into increasing/decreasing the flows out of the dam? Are you or your group associated with Arron Million or his group?

What is the purpose of wanting to change the flows?
I like Kokeking would like to know if this survey is in anyway associated with the Aaron Million water pipeline project.
I also would like a link to a website of the association you say you represent. So far I can't find one, and I have an idea you are spamming this website to gain information for other purposes that are not sportsman oriented.

I'm not sure how often Kevin visits this forum.....but it's not related to the Million project at all.
GROGA or Green River Outfitter and Guides Assoc. is the collaboration of guides and outfitters who work on the Green River below Flaming Gorge Dam and Kevin is their president. He's also part owner of Flaming Gorge Resort near Dutch John, UT and the Green River is his primary source of livelihood. It's a survey he developed to try and determine angler opinions on daily flow variations and how they influence their willingness to visit/utilize the Green River fishery.

[indent]The guy is legit. He is NOT associated with the water-grabbers on the Front Range or any of Million's interests. Quite the opposite.
Flows on the Green this winter have been crazy, with flows doubling and tripling every 6 hours, around the clock, 7 days a week. Something NO river ever does unless dam controlled. It was going from "flooding" to a "trickle", back and forth, twice a day.
Its hard on fish, hard on aquatic insects, and hard on fishermen trying to catch said fish. Simple as that.
Bureau of Wreck The Rivers at their finest.

Thanks Jim,
I glad to hear this is legit. Any kind of talk regarding water changes with the Green or the Gorge is a sticky subject in our neck of the woods as you well know.

Thanks for the info Jim. As Braz says any changes in the green river or the gorge are a touchy subject.

Thanks Ryno! GROGA is currently fighting the Million project as well. We have felt that the BOR and WAPA have ran some pretty drastic flow regimes over the past few years and we are mostly looking for the fisherman's perspective of these flows as well as trout condition etc...
Thanks to all that have participated in the survey! As of now we currently have 200 responses and I plan to share the results at the next flow meeting on April 27th in Vernal Utah at 7pm in the Western Park building. This is a public meeting and anyone interested is welcome to attend and share their concern.
Thanks,
Idryfly

Just out of curiousity, last fall I think it was November I was floating the river and down by little hole there was 2 people with several nets in the water. I'm pretty sure they told us they were running test to see what different flows push down stream and soforth. They were doing the same up by the dam. Did that have anything to do with this survey also?
Edit: I'm not sure if they were nets but they had rebar or poles with orange or redish net type baskets or something like that.

I am pretty sure that was USU bug lab. They have been studying the river for year but they are trying to find the effects of the double peaking winter flows on the aquatic invertibrates. Not related to the survey directly. Ryno probably could tell you more of what USU was doing last fall.

Idryfly is correct, it was Utah State University. They were doing an overwinter study to determine/monitor changes in the abundance of aquatic insects in response to changing flows. Their standard protocol was to sample at different depths and times as flows were ramping up, down, and stable. They had two sites on the Green below Flaming Gorge Dam- Spillway and Tailrace. They also perform quarterly monitoring of the Green from the Dam all the way down to the Colorado stateline. The survey Idryfly promotes is not directly related to this research, but part of the overall concern regarding fluctuating flows and the potential impacts to the Green River fishery.
