UL whites?
#1
Hi all,

I was wondering when the white bass bite usually turns on now that Utah lake is ice free? Also where are the best spots to fish from shore for them(don't necessarily want GPS co-ordinates to your favorite hole, unless you really want to [Wink]).

I've fished Lindon boat harbor before but never had much luck, always seemed to get there as a cold front or something shuts down the fishing(the people there fishing always saying "Oh man you should of been here yesterday"). Even went down there years ago for a BFT carp kill that went bust. I don't think anyone caught anything.[crazy]

Well I was thinking that it would be great to get the kids into some open water fishing now that the ice is off. Just wanted to know .

Thanks

I usually start catching white bass at the end of april through may. I do best with a gold or silver jakes or super duper magnum. Try the state park near the mouth of the river.

The post above has some good info, but I would PM tubedude for a PDF on this. He has maps, times, places and lures to use all in one nice pdf. He has done a lot of research and put a lot of time into this, and I could tell you some things, but its all in there.

I'm with Fishkillr about TD's PDF file. I have white bass behavior down to a science but so does TD and it's all in there. I can't wait for the water to hit 61 degrees.[Wink]

[cool][#0000ff]Quite a few white bass being caught already, but mostly by guys fishing for walleyes...using walleye tackle in walleye hangouts. Seems like folks targeting white bass are still not finding many.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The water needs to warm up a bit to get the whities schooling and "dating". That usually happens toward the end of April and through the whole month of May. There will be plenty of "wide open" reports then and you can just about pick your spot.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Right now the best place to look for them is wherever there is some warmer water coming into the lake. Even a couple of degrees warmer is enough to attract white bass.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]One area I can personally recommend is Lincoln Beach. There have been quite a few whities being taken all along both sides of the boat channel dikes. Also a few walleyes. And, the cats will be moving in close to the dikes soon too...especially off the end of the south dike.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]If you could float offshore a bit, the shallow cove by the pump house (see attached map) is an early gathering spot for white bass. There are some warm springs that come into the back of this cove and raise the water a few degrees. You can park and walk out on the rocks at the little pump house and fish a couple of feet under a bobber...with worm, jig, etc. The water is very shallow but the whities sometimes get thick in there early in the year. It is where I caught my first whities the last two years.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Shoot me a PM with your email address and I will send you the PDF file I put together last year on White Bass. I no longer post them for non members and I can't attach them to PMs right now. Still a glitch in the system that won't allow large files.[/#0000ff]
