6 Pack at Hyrum
#1
Took my brother-in-law out to Hyrum today. Hit the water at 10:00 to some moderate wind and cool weather. We shot across to the damn and started trolling up the south end toward the east side of the lake. There is still ice on the southeast corner, but the rest of the lake is open. Got the first one right at the edge of the ice. Made a few passes around that area with fish on every time. Ended up getting 9 total fish to the boats edge, with six ending up in the boat. Tried for some perch after lunch but to no avail. They were not where they were during ice on, and couldn't find them. All in all, a great day on the water. Took off at 2:00. Largest was 16" and smallest at 12".

Nice job. Looks like it was a productive day. I had a lot of luck on Hyrum last fall. It's good to see it has carried over to spring.

There were a total of about 4 boats the whole time we were out there. Looked like everyone was getting a few here and there.

It was worst when we first got there. Blowing at I would guess about 8-10 mph gusts. But within 30 minutes it was a slight breeze. By about 1:30, the sun was out and no wind. Picked up again slightly as we were leaving. All in all, a great day as far as weather goes.

Good to know that there's some open water and some active fish in the valley. Does anybody know if there's and good access for a tube fisherman at Hyrum? It seems like it's mostly private property with little access.

I know you can get down to the southeast end. We went down there all the time thru the winter. We just parked on the side of the road and walked down a pretty good hill. I think it was private property, but there are no no trespassing signs, plus we talked to the people that live in the house right by where we parked a few times, and they didn't say anything about not wanting us to park there and walk down. But it's right there where all the ice still is, on the opposite side of where the creek comes in.

PM me and I will try to give you more precise directions to the spot I am talking about. I am off to school right now, but will get back to you this evening.

You can get to the water near the damn. That is where I spent some time ice fishing and there were a few people catching fish there from shore this past Sunday. They were using both spinners and baits. I marked many fish in this area on the FF, but were not able to boat any on that end. They are there though.

While I am thinking about it, any thoughts as to where perch would be during the summer in this lake? They were not where they were in the winter.

I knew about the dam, but it's always so crowded, I'm hesitant to tube it for fear of getting snagged. I will have to check out that other area though. The perch may be moving in more shallow to spawn. They usually do it pretty shortly after iceout when the water reaches around 44 degrees.
