Is there such a thing? I got an email from Cabelas a while back with one. I read the reviews, it fell apart during assembly or the first time it was used.
I looked at one hanging in Costco. I don't know if it is any good.
We use a little 10' rowboat with a trolling motor on some small lakes, but now that the boy is getting bigger, it's getting crowded. We thought about tossing the wife in a pontoon so she could fly fish and I could help the boy. I could also tow her out to the good spots with the motor.
Plus, both boats would still fit in the bed of the pickup.
The cheaper the better. $250 or so would be great.

Look around on the tubing/tooning forum. They will be able to give you a good answer.
Usually cheap and good don't mix with toons. I guess it depends what you want to do. If you are planning on doing any tooning down rivers I wouldn't go cheap. you can wrap a cheap one around a rock easy.

I don't know where you live but Roger at Portnuef river outfitters in pocatello had a catch and release sale a week or so a go where people brought in there used fishiong gear that they were trying to sell. There was a couple toons still there. He might know if the people are still trying to sell them. Give him a call 1-208-232-4776

Browse the Float tube forum. I think I have seen pictures of the Costco pontoon there.
Try this one:

And Costco and Cabela's have good return polices.

My suggestion is check online ads like Craig's List and look for Bucks Bags Bronco or Southfork pontoon boats. They are very well made, and Buck's Bags is a Boise company. You can get replacement parts at the store, and they will even help you install the parts if needed.

This might sound really odd, but I picked my at a garage sell. The guy had used it once and just wanted to get rid of it. It was towards the end of the sell and I asked one tenth of what he was asking and he took it. You may not get it that cheap, but it's worth a try.

I agree with the Craig's List. You could get a great toon for a killer price.
Bucks and Outcast are not the same anymore. They are Asian made and Vinyl Bladders, but they cost the same as they use to being USA made with Urethane bladders,,,,I won't do business with them anymore, but just me.
Now if you can find an older version, they are worth their weight in gold.
Also the Scadden pontoons. They pop up on KSL and Craigs list often.
The Costco boats offer allot and I know several with them.
Things to look for if you want a pontoon for several years, one that the frame is Aluminum (no rust and lighter) and the bladders Urethane (last longer and lighter) finally a good strong PVC cover.
They are on KSL and Craigs list.

I just spoke with the Outcast company and all of their boats outside the fishcat series and discovery series are still Urethane......... So all the models from the discovery series up are still Urethane.

I am going off the letter I received. Here it is:
All of our boats are made overseas except for Pac 1100 and up. Please

Don't get me wrong, the Outcast are good boats and always have been, but they went overseas to save money, let us see that savings.

Personally, I'd give the one from Costco a try. They usually have pretty good stuff for the price. Plus their warranty is great. For any item that's not electronics, if you don't like it or it breaks, they'll take it back no questions asked, any time. I bought my vacuum there, and when it conked out a year and a half later, I was able to return it and get another one.

I agree with Stacy.
I checked out the one from Costco the other day too. It looked like a nice boat to me! For the money, I don't know if you are going to do much better. It comes with a couple nice features too, easy to move the oar position and a rod holder. Also has a trolling motor back plate.... sturdy looking toons.... I told my father in law it he should get one.

Thanks for all the replies. We'll take a long look at the Costco next time we get there. I'll also check Thrifty Nickel and Craigslist, but I don't know what KSL is.

I just wonder why we got two different responses............
Its not like it personally affects me, I hardly ever fish from my pontoon anymore.

from what I've hear the ones at costco, sam's club walmart etc. are ok for basic tooning. At least the one going for around $250 range. I still wouldn't take it on any real rapids, but for a calm float like on the S. Fork of the snake, the Henry's Fork or lakes and ponds it should be pretty good.
