Owyhee Saturday

After the prefish last Sat, we had our tourney. Needless to say, the two I caught last week were nowhere to be found, but I did manage to find a 3.75. I won big fish and the tourney. Fishing was slow with water temp jumping from 48 last week to 53 degrees at start and hitting 60 by the end of the day. Still scratching my head trying to figure out why the fish weren't more active with the warmer temps. Caught a bunch of 12 to 15 inchers but the big fish were not to be found.

I would love to, I love fishing Milner, but I have a tourney up at Hells Cyn that weekend. I'll be up there from May 11th thru the 17th. One of my favorite spring trips.

Hell's Canyon! When we make our annual trip up from Utah we always spend the majority of our time fishing Oxbow. We have not had a bad trip up there in the last four years. We usually have two hundred fish days. I know that is hard to believe but it is the truth. Last year we spent a few afternoons on C Ben Ross and did really well catching greenies. We have always said that we should try Hell's Canyon but have never put in there. Is it worth the effort?

Actually, we will be fishing Oxbow on Sat, the 15th, with a paper tourney cause you can't keep fish until the middle of July. Then on Sun, we will decide whether to fish Hells Cyn or Brownlee, depending which is fishing better during the week that we are there.

Hells Cyn use to be great but the last few years it has declined in big fish being caught. Last year, we opted out and fished Oxbow both days. We couldn't find anything bigger than 13 inches on Hells Cyn. Back in the early 2000's we were catching 3 to 5 lbers. A couple of pics from 2008 and 2007.

That is what we have been told. A lot of little fish and not very many big ones. I wonder why that is? Its a big enough reservior that you would think it would hold a lot of nice fish. Have you ever been up on C Ben Ross?

I really don't know what is going on with the big fish on Hells Cyn. We always caught good size ones in the current below Oxbow dam but last year we never caught a thing there. It's got me baffled.

I've never fished C Ben Ross but would like to. I'm just going to have to do it one of these days.

It's a great little reservoir. Last year we boated 50 largemouth in about four hours. The evening bite was the best. They were all nice healthy fish. We hit Oxbow until about 1400 and then head up to C Ben Ross for the evening fish. What a great way to spend four full days of fishing. [Smile]
