Ending to my previous post
#1
Here's kind of a funny/interesting ending to my fishing trip that I previously posted for Mantua, 7/9. I had cast my "reaper" along the bank and immediately something grabbed it and was swimming towards me. Well, I started reeling in like crazy and trying to set the hook. Had him/her on just long enough to know it was a biggy (for me) and then it was gone. [frown] Reeled in my line and noted my reaper along with my anchoring split shot were gone. After having a heated conversation with the water and the fish, saying a few choice words, I resumed fishing. About 1/2 hr. latter, drop shotting along the edge of the weeds in the same general area, this big guy comes out of nowhere and grabs my new reaper. I set the hook and thanked myself for switching to 10# line because all, and I mean all, big guys go to the weeds/vegetation immediately. I put as much pressure on him/her as I could to at least keep it on the top part of the weeds with "some success". It was a battle, the kind I go fishing for. [Smile] Anyway, I was able to land her (found out latter) and she measured 15in. That was enough to call it quits and go home with a ******* grin on my face.
"Now the rest of the story". [Wink] I cleaned my fish today. After filleting the 15in. gal I thought, -------, let's take a look at the stomach. Yep, my reaper was all the way down in her stomach and in tact. [shocked] I recovered it and will use it again as my "lucky reaper". There you go, just thought you fisher folks might enjoy this. Good story Leaky. Glad you got your rig back.

I was at Mill Meadow a few weeks ago and a buddy managed to break off a perch of all things. He lost a Ratfinkie I'd given him to fish with. 10 minutes later I pull in a keeper perch with line hanging out of his mouth. Sure enough, there's my Ratfinkie!

Too bad he couldn't tell a story about the biggun that got away. Just a 10" perch.

Not sure how you got all of the red Xs in your post.

Under Chrome it shows those red Xs with the same icon it uses for a picture link that is not working. That's why I said his pics were not working. Thought he had inlined some that didn't work.

Though I did just try looking at the post from Chrome, Firefox and from Explorer. Explorer shows the red Xs. Chrome shows the missing graphic icon. Firefox doesn't show any issues at all.

We got robbed at Mantua!

Seems someone stole all the bite out of the fish!

Took my visiting nephews and bro-n-law to Mantua Thur - tried for an EARLY start, but didn't hit water until about 7+, so sun had already hit water.

Spotted up bluegill along the western shore. Seemed uninterested as they guarded nests. Bass along the n-e shore seemed pretty well gone off their nests.

Thing that bugged me - we couldn'te even get any trout followers along mid-lake. Even tried some fresh "carp" meat from our local supply. Thought for sure....

Really wanted to hit the nephews on some local fishingl, and Mantua has been one of our most relaiable fisheries of late. But not this time out.
Maybe I should have risked the treachury of the tigers at Newton?

There's a fellow who says he's there everyday.By the dock, local, pulled in some nice BG and Trout last time out.
Didn't have any problems with the trailer parking lot, though we were in and out.
Think one of the boys may have spotted a rattler, so watch your Ps and Qs.

The bass were largely off their nests at month ago. Time for summer patterns.

That reminded me of a trip to the berry one summer. My son was trolling his lucky crankbait and his line broke off fighting a good fish. Not 2 minutes later, our other pole started dancing. We landed that one and it still had his crankbait in its mouth. We still have it and it is still lucky for us.
