Invasive species sticker?
#1
I have an 8 ft. inflatable pontoon boat. Do I need a sticker on it? Seems like I read that all inflatable vessels under 10ft don't need the sticker? Can someone chime in on this. Oh, and I don't have a motor.

Thanks,

Justin

I just googled Idaho Invasive Sticker, which you should do, and it tells you what is required ans what is exempt. It is very clear to me but to be sure if you read it then it's not my interpetation.

You don't need the sticker on anything under 10 foot for most areas but there are exceptions to the rule some places like henrys lake they are mandatory on anything that floats.

Legislation passed in spring of 2009 is assisting in funding programs to prevent the introduction of invasive aquatic species in Idaho. Learn more by watching an informative video.

The new law requires boaters, both motorized vessels and non, to contribute to the Idaho Invasive Species Fund (IISF). The Idaho Department of Agriculture is responsible for management of the IISF program.

New LawUnder the new law, any boat that is registered in Idaho or another state, and any non-motorized vessel (canoe, kayak, raft, drift boat, etc.) will be required to purchase and display IISF stickers in order to legally launch and operate in Idaho. Inflatable, non-motorized vessels must be less than 10 feet in length to be exempted from this requirement.

Fees
For registered Idaho boaters, you will not be required to purchase or display a separate IISF sticker. By virtue of displaying your current year validation sticker, you have contributed and are complying with the invasive species law. Boats registered outside of Idaho will need to purchase an IISF sticker for $22.00; non-motorized vessels must purchase a $7.00 sticker. Discounts for non-motorized commercial fleets are available. Stickers can be purchased online, by mail, at any Idaho State Park, and some vendors.
[#0000ff]
[/#0000ff]The fees generated from the sale of IISF stickers will fund vessel inspections, washing stations and informational materials that will assist Idaho with preventing the introduction of aquatic invasive species like quagga mussels. See the Invasive Species Fund FAQ for additional information.

Questions
IISF program-related questions should be directed to the Idaho Department of Agriculture.

Where does it say you need the sticker on a float tube or boat less than 10 feet in length on Henry's Lake?

Thats what i was told last year by park rangers. we were there for two days and he told us if we didn't have them the next day we would be cited. I came home and researched it made phone calls and sent emails with no clear answers except it said on the parks and recreation site for henrys lake that all vessels must have one .http://parksandrecreation.idaho.gov/parks/henryslake.aspx so i made sure all the stickers i bought this year were put on Velcro backed Plexiglas to swap between driftboat, tubes and pontoons

How would they know . They take your money and don't ask for any information about what you are using it on . Curt G.

Drowning Flys, I understand you were mislead. Any vessel under 10 feet in length is exempt, as clearly stated in the law that established this fund-and the stickers whose sales support it. I would gladly ask them to cite me, then go to court and demand my accuser face me in a court of law. These jerks need to be educated. It is BS that some uninformed public servant is threatening people with citations when they are clearly wrong.

That's interesting. I guess it's who you know because last year we were at the State ramp launching, saw a boat launch without the sticker, a sheriff was there jacking his jaw with the inspector/cleaner and Joni asked how come he wasn't inspected and why didn't he need a sticker. The answer was he's a good ole boy from Idaho and this lake is all he fishes. Kind of goes hand in hand with the couple that had a stringer of fish cleaning them, and when approached by another guy saying they exceeded the limit, they said they'd been coming up here for over 50 years and the law doesn't apply to them. So you go figure this mentality out.[mad]

Well thats the way i seen the law as we didnt need them But i also wanted to fish and that would have ended the trip it would have cost me a lot more to run back to that county for a court date but i agree some of them step way outta line to show you who is boss in the parks.

About then I would have been taking a couple of pictures and writing down a badge # and a boat #!

Or maybe not, I probably would have stood there with my jaw on the ground in amazement.

Unbelievable!

If henerys does require even float tubes to have a sticker then there is two reasons not to fish there.
#1--- NO CATFISH!!!!!!!
#2-- people that haven't read the law and require float tubes to get a sticker.

But if they do get some 20 pound channels and 40 pound flatheads I might go back even if I did need a sticker in a float tube. [fishin] Ron
