Wiperslayer and I hit EC yesterday around 7am and fished till 1pm. We headed to Knights hollow but decided to stop about halfway and start trolling the West shore. We were marking a lot of fish from 20’ to 60 ft but the catching started off slow. We kept changing depth and lures until we figured out the correct depth and lure, that the fish were biting the best. Once we figured it out, it was constant catching the rest of the morning, with many doubles and even a few triples. There were a lot of boats out there for a Friday and before we left, even a water skier showed up. The hot setup for us was RMT dodgers and Radical glow squids. We lost count after we caught over 40 bows but they we larger this year compared to years past, with the smallest being 13” and the largest at 18”. The water is turning over and there is a lot of algae in the water. The only problem we saw was most of the fish have really bad sores in their skin from the anchor worms coming out because the water is cooling down. In the pictures you can actually see the worms coming out, real ugly, so the faint of heart might not what to look. It was a great morning on the pond, very cold in the morning and hot by the time we left.

Sounds like a good outing once you got your pattern figured out. Way to keep after 'em. Squids for trout eh?
You mentioned pictures, but didn't see any attached? I'll be the upcoming cool stretch will probably really push the turnovers.

[cool][#0000ff]In the olden days, when they were still trying to maintain Pineview as a trout lake, the rainbows all got the anchor worms very bad too. Used to call them "pizza-sides".[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]By the way, highly improbable that the lake is "turning over". Way too warm yet. More likely just an algae bloom. It is happening on almost all the lakes right now...including Utah Lake which is way too shallow for turnover. Combination of daylight hours and dropping temps triggers the algae to have a sudden "bloom" each day...usually after the water warms from about 60 to 65 degrees on a sunny day. Turnover on a lake usually happens when the water is much colder.[/#0000ff]

Well I must have seen you out there and it seems you caught all the big fish because I fished Thurs, Fri, and today out there. And you caught all the big fish because every one I boated was just 10-12"- mostly fresh planters or "pizza sides" as TubeDude called them but nothing of any size.
I wasn't seeing many deep fish so didn't use the downriggers but a jointed Rapala behind 1/2 ounce inline weight, or behind some small pop gear seemed to catch fish for me. Today's fishing was slow but Thursday I caught & released 12 by myself.
Wish I had known it was you, I'd have come by to say hey.

I was surprised too because in years past planters were the normal size for me too. I think the difference was how deep we were fishing and the radical glow squids. The smaller fish were caught early when we were fishing near the surface but once we started fishing deeper the bigger fish started showing up. We were four colors deep with lead core line and thirty feet with the riggers but the lead core was doing better. Oh yea, did I forget to mention that I was tipping all my lures with a piece of worm[shocked].
Which boat were you fishing in? What area were you fishing?

Tan and brown 16ft Crestliner with no side glass on the windshield and vertical rod holders in front of both windscreens. Friday we fished through the center of main lake and west side. Picked up most of our fish not too far south of the boat launch area.
