I just completed my new boat (homeade)and was just wondering what to expect when visiting the DMV to have it licensed for the first time. There are no VIN numbers, serial numbers or any idenifeing numbers. What will it take to license a 12' boat with an electric motor? Any idea how much to license? Any help would be appriciated.

You'll need to assign a VIN to the boat and to the trailer attach permanetly. If you use an engrave or carve it into the boat and the trailer it's fine. It's best to take the boat with you to the DMV when you do it, shouldn't be much $50. They base the taxes on price paid. It's doubtful, but maybe you paid taxes on materials already. Who knows maybe you were given the motor and the materials, or you got it for $1. Make sure you have pictures of the boat printed before you go. Just take them from an angle that you get 2 sides of the boat & then the opposite corner so you have all sides in 2 photo's.
Made your own boat? Impressive, you'll have to post some pictures.

Wow, that maybe a little hard, but I know many on here have registered their tubes with motors and they have no VIN or any other numbers either...so it can be done.
I paid less than $40 for my 14', so I think you should be around the same. Taxes are usually a bunch the first time, but if you built it...that should be fine too.
Good luck,
